John Common is kind of a weird dude. Not in the creepy guy mumbling to himself and rocking back and forth on the bus sort of way, mind you, but weird, nonetheless. Actually, I take that back. A better word for him is probably quirky or eccentric. (The guy's a big Tom Waits fan if that tells you anything.)
Anyhow, with that in mind, it should come as no surprise to find out that Common (due this Saturday, May 31, at the Lion's Lair) has announced plans to form something called the People's Kazoo Orchestra -- and he's not kidding. "My goal would be to get about sixty or seventy members and do occasional, large rock shows with my band," he explains. "There could, of course, be smaller, chamber kazoo quintets and sextets of course. I'm flexible." Would be kazooists are encouraged to read his manifesto and then reach out to Common directly. -- Dave Herrera
