Sometimes, I feel like I'm alone in my passion and enthusiasm for the Denver music scene. I can go on and on about how I believe we have something truly unique and valuable here, and when people just stare blankly back at me, I get the feeling that I'm the only one who feels this way.
But, as Kurt Cobain once said so eloquently, I'm not the only one. The other night, I was delighted to receive the following text message from a Denver musician: "Drunk in downtown Phoenix. Asked a dude where to catch some live music and he looked at me like I was crazy. I love Denver."
I couldn't help smiling. "Yes," I said aloud as a I drove recklessly down Federal, one eye on my phone and one on the road. "That's what I'm saying." Nothing against Phoenix, but it just ain't no Denver. As I'm so fond of saying, we have an embarrassment of riches. In fact, I've had a recent influx of friends hitting me up for live show recommendations, and I've yet to come up dry, even on a weeknight.
Whether you're cruising in the Highlands, or skittering around Five Points, or stumbling through Baker, finding live music in the Mile High City is like shooting fish in a pet store (not an activity I recommend, encourage or condone). And all you have to do is get out there. You don't have to galumph drunkenly through the streets and ask some random dude, who might or might not stab you or try to hold your hand. Instead, you can just get out there. There are countless sounds to hear, and even more sights to see. And there are plenty of people who are as excited about it as you are.
