After completing two extensive back-to-back tours of the West Coast and Midwest over the summer and through the fall, the Autumn Film is back at home briefly through the holidays, taking a bit of time off to write before embarking on another series of dates. On the next jaunt, the act, which was whittled down to a three-piece this past summer, will be hitting the East Coast for the first time with stops in Michigan and Chicago along the way.

Tifah Al-Attas, the outfit's frontwomen, says the split with bassist Juli Royster and violinist Aubrea Alford was completely amicable. "The girls, who are fantastic and great players, just decided that the touring lifestyle wasn't for them," she explains. "And we're just going on the road so much more that it just kind of became one of those things where they just weren't as happy being on the road. And because we care about them not just as players but as friends, it was kind of like, 'Hey if this isn't for you, that's totally okay. We can make this work anyway."

And make it work they have. Al-Attas says that newer fans have commented on how thick and layered the band sounds, seemingly unaware that the group has even downsized. "It's actually been really fine," she says of the revised line up "Both guys are on a keyboard now, too, sometimes, and we're doing a lot live triggering with pre-recorded tracks we've done or live looping. So it's kind of given us a lot more freedom to be creative live or when we write new stuff."

The Autumn Film is due this Thursday, December 11 at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, where it will be sharing a bill with Gregory Alan Isakov, Jessica Sonner and more, to benefit for Abby's Voice, an organziation established in the memory of Abigail Robertson to raise awareness and help prevent domestic violence. -- Dave Herrera
