On this fine Christmas Eve, I gift all of you with a link to the finest Christmas song ever recorded, and the only one anyone ever truly needed. It's a song about the brutal, cold reality behind all of our romantic pretension, and about love that still manages to hang on despite all the tears, regrets and recriminations. It's bitter and beautiful and perfect. If the picture didn't tip you off, it's the Pogues classic "Fairytale of New York" and I've embedded it after the jump in the form of a static YouTube "video." If you know this song, you know how great it is; if you don't, click through and get yourself educated. Merry Christmas to all. -- Cory Casciato

Shane McGowan's life was a true Irish tragedy. Sure, he may still technically be alive, but he has all but killed his ability to create (or even string together a coherent sentence) with booze. But while he was around he gave us songs as perfect as this one. I'll certainly drink to that.
