Guru shows love to Colo. hip-hop artists

For those unaware, Guru is founder and one half of legendary hip-hop group, GangStarr. Although the status of GangStarr is up in air (Guru says the group is done; DJ Premier says they're on a long break), the duo haven't talked since 2003. In the meantime, while DJ Premier is producing Christina Aguilera albums, Guru has been touring with his new partner, Solar. The new duo have worked on two albums together, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 4: The Hip-Hop Messenger: Back to the Future and Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures. Now the pair are touring to promote their latest album, and as part of that tour, Guru booked seven dates in Colorado. Before he came to town, he reached out to members of the Colorado hip-hop community in an effort to have local artists open, which is basically unheard of when it comes to national hip-hop artists.

With that in mind, on Sunday, January 18, and Monday, January 19, in Breckrenridge and Vail, Guru tapped On Point to open, and last night in Durango, Guru scooped up Distrakt and DJ Vajra to hold down the opening slot. Tonight Guru and Solar are stopping by the Walnut Room with A-Club, Calm and DJ Big Spade and tomorrow night the act will be at the Fox Theatre in Boulder with Umconcious and Audible Abilities and, possibly, ManeLine garnering the supporting roles. Guru and Solar will be wrapping up their stint in Colorado in Aspen at the Belly Up on Sunday, January 25, with the Pirate Signal, fresh off its Sundance Festival performance, in tow.
