Mile High Low Lifes, a bunch of class acts

So last week, we talked about the Mile High Low Life compilation and noted that the punk is thriving in Denver. And now we can see why the scene is so healthy. Stopped by 3 Kings Tavern for the CD release party on Saturday night and was struck by the turnout, which was impressive to say the least. Kings was packed to the gills. More impressive, however, was finding out the way the bands determined performance order for the night. Bart McCrorey (Valiomierda, Frontside Five) from Five Core Records instituted a lottery system where the bands put their names in a hat and drew their slots randomly. In an industry in which ego is king and everybody seems to be jockying for postion, the acts' -- all headliners in their own right -- all displayed a stunning lack of pretense. And that refreshing sense of camaraderie carried over to the fans, who all seemed to be having a great time.
