Obviously, we think Mojambus oughta play the Showcase to give it some variety!! Honestly, we're honored to have been nominated. . .thank you!
Mike
...i'd have to say "Without Tress"...totally original, monster sound.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 10:55AMMusketeer Gripweed just voted best blues band in Northern Colorado, just got a spot for the people's fair w/ a tremendous audition that led to an article coming out in the May Colorado Music Buzz, air time on 99 the mountain, 2 festival bookings in the Denver area, ask around, and the BUZZ is strong for this band.....never seen more energy from a band or frontman (who was the singer/frontperson/harp player who started Mojambus)so, ask the Goat, Jay from People's fair, or anyone else, and give them a listen....PEACE!

Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:02AMI'm not familiar with Jake Espy, but I really like Aaron Espy's songs about small town life.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:09AMI would LOVE it if you could include QUILLION in this year's Westword Music Showcase... is that DO-ABLE?
Thanks
@Suzanne: My bad. Not Jake. Aaron. Got a little excited there. Forgive me.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:20AMI'd love to see The Asbestos Tampons. Despite the gross band name, these guys bring it live. Plus its funny as hell hearing peoples reactions to their songs live.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:21AMPlease add Ascaris! They are the editors choice in this weeks westword. They will melt your face!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:32AMBlack Market Empire!!
I saw them at the Bluebird and they put on a great show!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:36AMI agree with Melissa G and Sally....Ascaris kicks ass!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:44AMI think The Nod should be added

Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:49AMThe Nod are real up n comers...
& while the BRONZE made the list...they still need more fans. Check em out for yourself..see if you like em here.

I'm not the same Jamie that voted for quillion 2 times above.. but hell. I'd be cool with it.. good people
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:51AM
Gotta go with The Nod on this. They kill it. I absolutely structure my nightlife around their performances.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 11:52AMWe like to hear for Ascaris they are great band and everyone will enjoy and love their music. So add them to you list of MUST HEAR MUSIC....

Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:00PMPlease add Ascaris cause this is my step dad and he works very hard in this band and I love him very much. And he deserves to win.
Gabby
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:02PMTHE NOD!!
Seriously, they have all been at this game for a while. They are killing it right now
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:07PMPlease add Ascaris to the Metal category I love them!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:09PMPlease add Ascaris to the Metal category. This band will rock the house.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:11PMAnother vote for Ascaris/Metal. Saw them in this weeks editors choice.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:13PMPlease add Ascaris to perform! That band is HOT and ROCKS!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:17PMLeaving The Nod off this list is a total sham. Instrumentally, they shred. Vocally, prepare to enjoy getting yelled at. Yep, that's The Nod for ya. Add 'em!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:21PMVonnegut gets my vote for a band that should be included
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:24PMDJ Amen for the win. Dudes deserved it for a few years now.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:26PMI remember the boys in the NOD when they were youngsters. They were alway such nice kids. They used to cut my grass.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:32PMso this weeks critics choice...ASCARIS...THEY EFFEN ROCK!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:34PMMILLION $ MU$A!
NEW BEN FRANKLINS!
QUILLION!
I told you ASCARIS shoulda been on the list.
Amen deserves to be on it too for sure.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:38PMThe Nod must be included, without a doubt!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:42PMAmen is my dude. I like all the hip hop artists who made it. There all fire.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:45PMPut me down for Black Market Empire... Seen 'em they're a solid group. New wave sound, like the Cure the Sound Joy Division New Order.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:50PMI nominate THE NOD for the showcase showdown.
They rock my effin socks off!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:53PMHow about Munimula in the metal category as well? Without a doubt the most innovative heavy band in the scene.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 12:53PMAdd Ascaris those MotherF&*ks Rock.
Without them the show will not be that good.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:10PMThe NOD ROCKS! This is no list without this band.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:14PMYou guys should really add Ascaris to your showcase... They are such a great band....
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:16PMWell you already had my vote: Lion Vibes.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:22PMI like Ascaris too. Good show live. My girlfriend likes DJ Amen's mixes a lot. Those two get my vote of the acts on here.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:22PMASCARIS! saw em at be Kind and Grind..they Rock!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:27PMMojambus was started by four musicians who have continually improved the band, first by adding a terrific harp player and singer in AC and then, recently adding the wonderful bassist, David Foret. . .the band gets better and better and generates an honest respect and admiration for their music even if they're not out blowing their own horns, pretending they're something they're not, just committing to and playing this great music with integrity for people who listen wtih their ears and treating people with whom they're involved with integrity and respect.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:27PMC'mon...add The Nod. The lead singer is hot in that ginger-smart-guy kind of way.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:42PMAscaris get's my vote, they are the BEST!!!Wewant ASCARIS!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:46PMThe Flash Mob brings an amazing energy to the Denver "scene"!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:48PMAtcaris all the way..... Please add them to your showcase....
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:53PMWE WANT ASCARIS... WE WANT ASCARIS....
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 1:54PMI'd like to see Sounds Supreme and/or Amen in either the hip hop or non-traditional categories. Both of them can crush a set on KS 107.5 & then go rock an electro/baltimore/hipster set that has Diplo open, that's gotta count for something. They're the homies (and fellow Radio Bums), so I know I'm biased, but the random cats all over the world jockin their tapes and posting them on their blogs don't know these guys from Adam, so I know it's not just me.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:00PMDear Westword,
Please add LORDS OF FUZZ!
Thanks
Dana
Glad The Nod and Ascaris' email distributions lists have checked in. Good job street teams!
Seriously, Lords of Fuzz.
They constantly get overlooked in this town but play consistently great shows every month in a lot of different venues. Check out the tracks from Bruiser on iTunes. Rock.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:01PMOscar and the rest of the dudes from The Lords of Fuzz can bring it more than occasionally.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:01PM@diggler: Heh-heh. I said we were asking for it. Good stuff, man!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:05PMYeah I like DJ Amen. I've seen him live and check him out often. I also like the cd's and remixes he's done with DJ Sounds Supreme. I haven't seen Sounds Supreme live but I'm sure he's pretty good.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:08PMASCARIS should be included in the METAL category
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:10PMASCARIS should be added!!!! ASCARIS rocks!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:21PMAdd Boldtype! They are the best punk band in Denver.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:23PMThe Nod AND Lords of Fuzz should be considered. Both are rockin' bands
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:24PMLets face it the Nod and Lords of Fuzz both suck pretty bad, I have personally seen them both clear out packed full venues. As for bands I have seen that are not on the list are some of the most underrated in town: Black Market Empire, DeadBubbles, and Drop City. Oh and for DJ, DJ Uplifter kills it!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:24PMThe Flash Mob ROCKS! They would be a great addition to the showcase.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:26PMLords Of Fuzz is a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:27PMNo Bueno is my fave! They are off da hook!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:28PMWestword has said it yourself!
http://www.westword.com/events/junius-and-ascaris-1022641/
ASCARIS needs to be there!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:37PMI have to agree with DenverScener
Black Market Empire, DeadBubbles, & Drop City all kill it and I never hear much about them
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:38PMDJ Sounds Supreme!! Not only is he 1/2 of The Solution, Westword's best hip hop night 2008, he's on ks1075, the Colorado Scratch Academy rep, a Radio Bum, and has opened up for all the dope shows this past year.
Makes sense to me...
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:42PMAbsolutely the LORDS OF FUZZ!!!! Check them out.... http://www.lordsoffuzz.com/ Oscar and the crew are amazing! I LOVE this Band! Denver wouldn't be the same without them!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:46PMwhy the hate denverscener? name one time you've seen The Nod or the Fuzz clear out a venue. Facts, baby.
White as Night rocks pretty hard and they are pretty unknown too...
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:47PMDust on the Breakers for sure
Those guys are incredible, and deserve more publicity
the Nod
and don't forget about the
Highland Ramblers
soooo under the radar!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:49PMBoldtype is playing Punk On The Rocks, but they aren't on this showcase? Come on add them!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:51PMThe Flash Mob. Seen 'em a few times and they're solid.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:51PMI want to see Boldtype on this bill!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 2:54PMBlack Market Empire....This town needs them!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:04PMGritt Hitter all the way! I will totally show up if they are on the bill! They freakin' rock!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:11PMBook the Flash Mob - they kick a$$!
NN
@ Diggler - I saw the Lords of Fuzz follow Black Market Empire at the Bluebird about 6 months ago, after BME played there was probably 75 people there, after Fuzz played there were 10, half of which were girlfriends/wives. They are def not worthy of this bill. Those are the Facts.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:12PMAgree with the above! She knows what she is talking about! Please please please add Gritt Hitter, they put on the best live show in Denver. The crowd gets PUMPED!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:13PMboldtype is a good punk band, no reason they shouldnt be out there.
id like to see Lords of Fuzz!!! they're a blast!
Black Market Empire is awesome!
Add all 3 to the showcase.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:14PMI am glad everyones email distribution lists work but the fact of the matter is that Lords of Fuzz, Ascaris, the Nod, No Bueno and Flash Mob all need loads of work to even be listenable let alone nominated for this showcase. Metal is dead especially after listening to these jokes, and Flash Mob white reggae and funk is just objectionable at all levels.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:17PMSeen No Bueno a few times, they really bring it.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:19PMPlease add SOFO and Vonnegut. They are two of the best bands in Denver!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:24PM@DenverScener haven't heard Gritt Hitter have you yet? They have out-played most of your named folks...Playing with No Bueno at the Gothic on May 9...
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:26PMFrom what I gathered this was a blog to show support for bands you would like to see. Who gives a crap if they sent info out on email distribution lists? Obviously the people that like the music came thru to show support. If metal is dead to denver scenesters then thats 1 up for metal!! Take your bad attitudes, smedium shirts and skinny jeans to another site.
Don't be too scared to let the metal of Ascaris and the rock of the Nod melt your guyliner off!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:30PMGritt Hitter is a new band that headlined their 2nd show and is playing the Gothic for their 6th! they are new and tearing up the Denver music scene!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:34PMPlease put SOFO in the showcase. Not sure why they were not nominated.
They ROCK!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:35PMPlease put SOFO in the showcase. Not sure why they were not nominated.
They ROCK!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:35PMyeah why are we (holley 750) not even asked to play?? oh yeah people hate us!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:39PMNo Bueno is my new fav band. They play Herman's on SAT, so much fun.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:40PMThe guys and girl in Gritt Hitter have my ultimate support. I schedule my outings according to their shows!! They throw down!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:46PMI say Musketeer Gripweed, reefer smokin music played by talented guys who love to have fun!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:46PMYou MUST have Gritt Hitter. These guys absolutely ROCK. Their local and up and coming. They've been playing some great local venues and they kick ASS!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:48PMLords of Fuzz get better every time I see them. Not always the same crap. It's good to see a band that can mature and change. Especially in this town!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:48PMhell yes !! holley 750 would destroy that show!! get them on it!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:50PMSofo & Vonnegut should be included, these are two of the BEST bands in dever. Come on Now!!
Gritt Hitter for sure! A must on any Denver line up!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:57PMThe Pickup Artist is amazing! There aren't too many bands out there with the energy they have live. They should definitely be playing!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 3:57PMTo play the showcase, it has to be Umlaut. Check their stuff here
www.myspace.com/umlautrocks
Overlooked and should be included:
Candy Claws (electronica/ambiant)
Arliss Nancy (alt. country/americana)
Wire Faces (rock)
And yes, Magic Cyclops
In fact, you should have Umlaut and Magic Cyclops battle it out for a spot at the showcase. I would pay $$ to see that.
isnt the pickup artist a movie ??
i vote holley 750
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:00PMyeah if youre a 14 year old girl you might like no bueno
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:03PM SO obviously you a missed a few "BOLDTYPE" " Suburban Hostage" "ONLY THUNDER" and "TAUNTAUN"
Just to name a few!
Have fun @ the Kiddie concert!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:05PMHOLLEY 750 .
those guys are the most under rated punk band in town.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:06PMPlease add Ascaris to your venue.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:09PMIf I had to choose 1 then Boldtype, 2 I would say Boldtype & Suburban Hostage!!! Check'em out!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:10PMHOLLEY 750 SPEEDROCK !! HELL YEAH PUT THEM ON THIS BILL. EVEN WHEN IM SOBER I LIKE'EM
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:11PMPlease invite Ascaris to this event!!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:12PMI would love to see "QUILLION"!!! They freakin' rock!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:12PMYou gotta get the boys of Lords of Fuzz!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:12PMI would like to add QUILLION to this year's music showcase! Make it happen ... they're really good.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:13PMsatan commands you to put holley 750 on the bill
satan
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:14PMAdd Sofo. They are totally unique and always rock the house.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:15PMHow in the hell did Sofo & Vonnegut get overlooked?!!!! Two of the best rock shows in Denver- they gotta be in the showcase!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:17PMwho else could possibly be in the punk cat but holley 750
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:18PMhell yes even satan wants holley 750
that gets my vote
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:19PMGritt Hitter, though I do enjoy the Nod, the Flash Mob and Workhorse. No Bueno is playing with Gritt Hitter so I guess I will check them out then, but have never heard of them before. Gritt Hitter is the best new band in Denver! Make it happen West Word!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:24PMSofo & Vonnegut should be included
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:25PMLords of Fuzz, motherF$#%ers!!! F$#%$# yeah!
SoFo is a great group. they should be playing the showcase.
wendy cook
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:34PMThe Fuzz are playing tomorrow night at One Eyed Jacks.
Let their set (not email list) decide.
To All You Talking Crap About Other Bands: SHUT THE f@#k UP!! Thats not the point of this thread and your taking away from the value of it.
Anyways, LORDS OF FUZZ baby!! True organic Denver rock!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 4:44PMSOFO should have won Alice's Almost Famous contest. I say put 'em up for this ballot.

Still got to go for Gritt Hitter, I saw the Fuzz with the Gritt, and I think the Gritt bring a better show. The Fuzz have been around are good, but they don't pump the crowd up like Gritt does!

of the two, Lords of Fuzz...they've gotten so much better and so much more material within the last year. and those gogo dancers...DAMN they're hot!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 5:02PMSofo and Vonnegut please!!! Two absolutely AMAZING bands!!!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 5:02PMI can't believe SOFO is not in the showcase! They deserve to be on this list... I'm surprised they were missed..
SOFO For Sure!
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 5:04PMThe Flash Mob may be objectionable to you, DenverScener, but not to all that packed or near-packed the venues that I have seen them play at. You sound like an elitist, and you should leave your conceited attitude offline. There's much more to the music scene here than the indie country club on South Broadway.
Posted On: Thursday, Apr. 23 2009 @ 5:07PMHow did Lords Of Fuzz get lost in the mix!?
I give the nod to the **Lords of Fuzz**

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 3:14AMi agree, TYLER WARD for sure!!!
coolest kid just ever!
Although I do have a crew and friendship bias in saying this, I think that...
DJ SABOTAGE
is consistently one of the most taken for granted DJs in Colorado.
I personally place a great deal of credence in being diverse. I'm not all that impressed by dudes that just do clubs or just DJ in a hip-hop groups, the ability to spread yourself around is huge to me. So let's look at Sabo's resume:
He's CONSTANTLY on the air at Magic FM in Colorado Springs radio wise.
He's in the club no less than 4-5 nights a week as owner, DJ, and promoter of various venues.
He drops mixtapes regularly.
He is BY FAR the best DJ in the state behind a microphone, as seen in his ability to win the...
2009 Scion Hypeman Competition.
He tours regularly as the DJ for Melissa Lujan's stage show.
And those are all just the highlights. I honestly don't know what else the guy can do. I freakin' love DJ Sabotage!!!!!

just won "Battle of the Bands" at Hard Rock Cafe in Denver, Colorado! That in itself speaks something. He's also had a song play on the New York radio just a month ago - and has worked for MTV and has an agent and is on the brink of making it - when of course the timing works! So, if you give him and of course his and his bands' incredible talent a listen - you'll put him right on in the top five right away! I know because I'm a concert pianist and an accomplished musician myself! I love their music - YOU WILL TOO. He has so many fans already - but just has to become known - in these sorts of ways that you are offering- THANKS! His myspace page has all his places to hear his stuff - it is http://www.myspace.com/tylerward

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 9:03AM@Idiots: Do you really think that listing the band name a thousand times in your comment will get the band you're voting for more votes?
Also, do you really think that the admins and judges here aren't counting the number of votes per IP address? In other words, do you really think that spamming the comment section for your band from the same computer will give your band more votes?
Don't annoy the judges into including your band. That's bad form.
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 9:11AMBOLDTYPE: Dude seriously they ROCK and if you don't have them in the showcase, then you won't be truly show casing the best of the best that Denver has to offer.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 9:27AMWho is the DenverScener and where does he come off thinking he is the ultimate authority on whats good and not good in the music scene? The great thing about the Denver music scene is the variety and the uniqueness of the fan base! Maybe he should let this thread do what it was intended to do and allow people to nominate who they think deserves to play in the show. If he was so good at critiquing music he would be writing columns for a music based magazine and not on an internet blog...your rants are pathetic and annoying. Denver Scener- leave your fact lacking (LOF has never cleared a venue, they pack them...and no one in LOF has a wife so it would be difficult for the wives to be the only ones in a venue after a show) thoughts off of this blog and allow people to give their opinions freely!
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 9:31AMLords of Fuzz should be on the ticket...definitely! The guys are down to earth and fun to be around. The have really grown in the past year and a half that I have been a fan. Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 10:58AMOkay, so I listed to the Alan Baird Project on myspace (that "Balloons" song). Sorry guys, but fuckin' boring, MOR been-there-done-that warmed over, and completely uninteresting. I can see how the OC/Grey's Anatomy tweener crowd would like it, though, so it'll probably sell a million copies.
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 11:06AMYou guys completely missed the boat on Black Market Empire. Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 11:34AMI'd add Tequila Mockingbird for sure, the band is tight and the new songs are sweet!
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 11:37AMHey mondogarage,
Just so you know, some people appreciate music with simple melodies, layered guitars, and lyrics that actually mean something. And balloons is the only song posted on their myspace page at the moment because their EP won't be released until May 1st. But if you knew their music, you would know that most of it has a bluesy, alternative rock feel.
Clearly, you don't know their music. If you did, I could talk to you about thier music-- songs like "Highway," "Sink This," "Dream," "Meet Virginia," and others-- and how they've created a new sound, one the fuses funk, indie, metal, country, R&B, southern rock, and dirty ass blues -- a product that blends their varying, individual influences into an explosively progressive and versatile alternative rock.
And yes, it's music they might actually play on the radio. In fact, their music has been picked up my 93.3 and 101.5.
BTW, nobody else is putting down the music of other bands. Please reserve your comments for when you actually know what you're talking about.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:14PMMight you add...B-B-B-B-BOLDTYPE?!!! They are sexy!!!
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:16PMRachel, how long you been on the Alan Baird Project street team? Just because you're married to their bass player doesn't necessarily make you an objective observer. But carry on.
"And balloons is the only song posted on their myspace page at the moment because their EP won't be released until May 1st. But if you knew their music, you would know that most of it has a bluesy, alternative rock feel. Clearly, you don't know their music."
You're right, I don't know their music other than what I've heard. If you're trying to say their myspace song isn't representative of their work, maybe they should put a different song on their myspace page. They're clearly competent musicians, but I personally found "Balloons" to be entirely uninspiring the absolute opposite of a "new sound", is all. However, their street team and e-mail list work is to be commended, you're definitely on the ball.
I'm sure they're a perfectly reasonable live band, but c'mon, you're hardly a disinterested party here. Carry on, and good luck.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:35PMAscaris should definitely be there.
Ascaris!!!
Oh yeah, I just wanted to add...they're already on the ballot, but I've been listening to King For A Day's newest CD today, "Ghost in the Slipstream", and I think it's pretty damn good stuff. If you like classic pop, they're definitely worthy.
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:36PMhere are two fresh bands for ya!
ACCORDIAN CRIMES
and
THE BEDSIT INFAMY
Great bands! You'll be hearing about them sooner then later.
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:38PMAscaris for sure. Great music and a style that needs to be represented at the showcase. Enjoy!
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:40PMmondogarage,
You are definitely entitled to your opinion. I respect that. I just feel like the Denver music scene should be one in which we respect the music of other bands and don't feel the need to put down the music of others. You won't hear or see me dis other bands even if their music isn't my favorite.
We all have our individual tastes and preferences. Obviously, I have mine, but I don't see why your comment was necessary. As someone stated earlier, the bands with the most legitimate votes (not spam) will earn a spot. Let the votes speak for themselves. Don't put down other bands.
Personally, I am happy and excited to witness the successes of other Denver bands even though (yes, it's true) I am indeed married to the bass player. (It would be pretty sh*tty if I didn't get on here to voice my support, don't you think?) You will see me (and The Alan Baird Project) out there supporting the shows of other Denver bands working the scene.
Maybe I got a little too fired up in my original post. I just got pissed because I didn't understand why you felt the need to put down another band's music. That's not what the music scene should be about.
Let the votes speak for themselves.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 12:55PMWhere is SOFO and Vonnegut? SOFO kicked a$$ at Alice 105.9's competition at Herman's Hideway, only to be ROBBED of the GRAND PRIZE! Everyone there knew they won, except the jerks behind the judging. SOFO didn't want to give up all control to them. Now's your chance to make it up to them and to Vonnegut.

I'd really like to see The Nod get on the ballot
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 1:04PMEgo vs. Id for Indie Pop. I think it would be a mistake to not include Sonnenblum, too. Is there really another Tequila Mockingbird? Maybe someday that name will make a band famous. It didn't work for the Boulder based one I knew in the '80's but most of the old members went on to have respectable careers in music. Good luck to the new 'bird!
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 1:05PMMy vote would be for The Nod they are one of the best stoner rock bands I have seen in the Denver area.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 1:11PM"Maybe I got a little too fired up in my original post. I just got pissed because I didn't understand why you felt the need to put down another band's music."
And I will say the same.
If I can give one suggestion, however, it is this, and take it for what it's worth. The impression I got from your post is that the song on the band's myspace page is not actually representative of their work, stylistically (re your statement that "But if you knew their music, you would know that most of it has a bluesy, alternative rock feel."
If that is the case, the band should probably make sure that the first song prospective fans and listeners ever get to hear is something that the band feels is truly representative of them, and not something that's a departure, lest people get the idea that they may be one kind of band, when they're something else entirely.
As for putting down another band's music...well, I actually do write the odd music review, with no malice at all intended, I'll just say two things and leave it at that. One, I actually do write music reviews, and thus I'm not really capable of giving anything short of an honest opinion. Emphasis on "opinion". Two, if someone puts out their music in a promotional effort, such as linking to a band's myspace page in an effort to get people to listen to it, it's unreasonable to expect that everyone who likes it will publicly praise it, while those who don't are expected to keep their thoughts to themselves.
But seriously, good luck to your band and to all Denver bands. I'll echo that the overall music scene in Denver is simply wonderful, and 99% of the country would be proud to have a scene as good as ours for their own. On that note, let's return the thread to the regularly scheduled hypage.
Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 1:12PMVONNEGUT please and Sofo. These two bands have a sound that is un doubled in Denver!!!
Vote Vonnegut
Vote SOFO

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 1:13PMThe Outta Contollers and Forth Yeer were nominated in the "punk" category and BOLDTYPE wasn't? The Outta Controllers and Forth Yeer are decent bands but they're not punk rock at all...more like sleazy 80's rock and roll.

Posted On: Friday, Apr. 24 2009 @ 2:20PMI started attending Sofo's concerts as a friend. Now, as a fan.
I attend 90% of their shows, and become more impressed each performance. If not, I wouldn't go, and neither would everyone else casting their vote for this local band. Maybe another earful of "Nothing will please 'til I reach the seas" might change your mind. Try track 11.

I love the internet. Facebook, then to myspace, then to bullitins then to westword just to vote. But its all worth it because this band FUCKING rules. I love THE ALAN BAIRD PROJECT. Best local band live. You will hear anything from Rock, indie, alternative, blues, hip hop and just plain bad ass come from these guys live. They know how to please a crowd of any nature. No one ever leaves not hearing something they didnt like. I love them and are by far the best local band and soon to go national. I dont understand why they arnt already.
Love,
Briand:)
Boy i sure love The Alan Baird Project:)

The Alan Baird Project please! I may be in the band, but I ain't too proud to beg! But serious, there are so many great bands on this list as well. We've only been a band for about a year and a half and we had the opportunity to share the stage with so many of the bands on this list. So much talent and so much dedication! I love the denver music scene! I tip my afro to all you bands.
Posted On: Saturday, Apr. 25 2009 @ 10:28PMI just saw THE ALAN BAIRD PROJECT play the garden theatre on the UNC campus. They impressed me somthin' ferocious. Good skills individually, but also the restraint to make it all mesh together. great band.

Hell, Krakatau is nothing more than a cover band now and Under the Drone is done.

Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 9:47PMI do want to get into a pissing match! And I'm willing to bet that Nick Fox from the Alan Baird Project can piss farther than anyone! And I don't have to be anonymous to say it!
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 10:00PMSo, I just listened to a lot of the bands on this list...and there is a lot of crap. I might be biased because I'm in The Alan Baird Project. But the one band that stood out to me was Ego vs. ID! Very interesting music. If you guys ever wanna hook up and play a show together, let me know.
SO, my votes are....
The Alan Baird Project
Ego vs. ID
Vonnegut
The Pickup Artist
P.S. I haven't seen The Rouge on this list at all! Maybe they are already on the ballot, but they are an amazing band.
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 10:13PMThe Pickup Artist will blast your face off! The showcase needs this kind of energy. Put them on already.
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 10:55PMAlan Baird Project

C U Friday Fellas!
Clearly, Ben Jordan and the Heathens - what are any of you people doing with your time?
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 11:00PMYou need to include 'ASCARIS' to the Westword Music Showcase! How can you represent Denver without them!
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 11:04PMThe Alan Baird Project took the shape of a unicorn last time i saw them!
Posted On: Monday, Apr. 27 2009 @ 11:42PMEgo vs. Id brings the kind of talent and committment seldom seen. you have got to get out to hear them, they are a real treat.
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 8:08AMTwo of the most talented up and coming bands are definitely Sofo and Vonnegut!!
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 11:46AMI listened to Ascaris on their myspace page. More like Ass Cancer. Major load blower right there.
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 1:31PMI'd really like to see Vonnegut and Sofo added to the ticket.
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 2:57PM"Anonymous says:

For your information the drummer has ass cancer. And the bass player has cannotblowmyload syndrome.
Not cool dude. Not cool.
DH,
When do we find out which five acts made it on the ballot? Thanks for opening up this forum.

Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 4:51PMmelissa G. that was way too sick and wrong and funny!
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 5:15PMThe ABP, son! The Alan Baird Project! Final answer.
Posted On: Tuesday, Apr. 28 2009 @ 5:33PMSofo & Vonnegut should definitely be involved!!!!! Can't get enough of them!!!
Posted On: Wednesday, Apr. 29 2009 @ 12:23AMSo I listened to THE ALAN BAIRD PROJECT on their myspace page. It left me numb with boredom. Oh, hold on, I'm a robot. I don't have feelings. Do robots yawn?
Posted On: Wednesday, Apr. 29 2009 @ 11:08AMDeadbubbles should certainly be under consideration, too! They are unjustly under the Denver radar and are simply awesome providers of sincere, gorgeous rock and roll thunder, without smirking or irony!
(Thanks for providing this forum, by the way! It's a swell vent...)
Voting's over guys. It ended Monday night. You can quit defensively compensating for your own band's weakness by submitting fake comments and hating on other bands now.

If the method for picking bands to perform at the westword music showcase is how many times they can type their own name into a blog then it's probably not for us.
It can be said without a doubt that this way of choosing bands is not an honest representation of what is happening in the Denver music scene.
Go out to more shows.
Seek talent.
Support local music.
The Vergers

Local to showcase: Jeremy Dion!!!
Montana/Wyoming folks to showcase: Jessica Kilroy, and Steampowered Airplane.
WHERE IS VONNEGUT AND SOFO IN ALL THIS MADNESS???!! COME ON WESTWORD!
Posted On: Monday, May. 4 2009 @ 11:40AMJeremy Dion is awesome at Scrabble and does a sweeeeeeet Eddie Vedder impression.
Posted On: Wednesday, May. 6 2009 @ 2:08PMI heard about this and think this type of shenanigans is just plain lame. I guess the band with the ability to sit in front of the computer and type in their band name wins. LOL. You guys weeding out duplicate IP addresses or does it even matter ?
Who chose the original bands in the first place. I am in a local band here and just very disappointed in the way things are being run.
I wish the Warped Wannabeez were in the line up. I would have loved to see them live.
Posted On: Monday, May. 11 2009 @ 9:03AMSo, when are the results gonna be posted? Or is this never gonna happen? If the bands get on now, they will only have a month to get people to vote on the ballot!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 12 2009 @ 1:09AMThis blog was just a fluff your own ego test, and you all passed!Congrats!
You all proved how good you are at spaming, and how willing you are to bash other peoples musical efforts for personal gains.
you said you were gonna post the bands that made the cut this week but didn't dave...what's going...I gather that you all have decided this was a colossal mistake, and I think we all understand, but you need to make a freakin decision and post the bands that made it - they already have no chance but giving the original bands a 3 week head start is equally unfair...the silence is deafening here!!! who cares about the same IPs, just add the 10 bands here that got support and move on - none of them have a shot in hell of getting voted in anyways...and bag the "one band gets to perform" notion - ya gotta earn it...
Posted On: Friday, May. 15 2009 @ 10:14PMFLASH MOB, FLASH MOB, FLASH MOB!!!!!!!!!! Kyle, Wayne & the other dudes are amazing. This band is worth it! They are fabulous!!!
FLASH MOB! 100%!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 2:26PMi have to say there are two DIRTY MOTIVE RECORDS artists tat should be considered for HIP HOP-BIG SLAM 1 who is probably colorados dopest MC and for R&B the new release of DR PHEEL GOOD has to be in the mix.
