The Common Box Project

commonbox.jpg
John Common is a regular fount of cool ideas. He did that whole Kazoo Orchestra thing a while back, he was a hilarious blogger for this very blog at one point and now, he's doing this: The Common Box Project. The idea here is that 65 artists are creating unique art boxes inspired and informed by his upcoming record. Each box starts the same and will contain a copy of said album in a secret place, but from there they will diverge into one-of-a-kind creations that reflect both Common's music and the individual artist's idiosyncratic sensibilities.

The results will be on display starting July 9 at the Abecedarian Gallery, 910 Santa Fe Drive, Unit 101 and will run through July 18, culminating with a listening party. And if you fall in love with one pf the pieces, you can make it your own, along with what should be a great album, of course. You can get all the rest of the details, including some typically entertaining insight from Common himself, at the link above.
