Goodbye Indie 101.5. Hello Indie303.com.

Read Indie3O3's manifesto after the jump. Penned by Ralphie, it's the radio version of the Things We Think and Do Not Say. Dig it.

Hello everyone this is Ralphie,

First off, if you are, sad about Indie leaving the FM dial don't be! We don't view this move as a step backwards, rather we will be bringing many new and exciting features to Indie not possible on the FM dial. Whip, Lynn, and myself will all be bringing their shows to Indie303.com, and we will be building this site from the ground up, based on your feedback.

We're just moving our shows off the radio, and all things considered, it's a much easier way to get the music you want. I'm genuinely excited about what's to come - a localized radio station free of FCC regulation and no longer forced to adjust the playlist to get ratings. This is a dream come true.

The term "Alternative" has lost its meaning when referring to a radio format. To me, Alternative means to play music that's NOT on other stations. Unfortunately the way the ratings system is set up, there's no possible way to win that game without playing those songs. On Indie303.com, we don't need to worry about the ratings game.

I believe the Indie genre spans far more genres than just Indie Rock. The opportunity to expand our playlist to cover music picked by true music fans based locally in Colorado is going to be incredible. PLUS, our ability to be mobile and broadcast from any internet connection is a true step forward vs. being stuck in the same studio every day.

Simply put, Colorado finally has a local station to serve its needs. We may not be in the air via an FM signal anymore, but we are on the air via wi-fi. THIS IS FREEDOM everybody! The FCC doesn't look over content on the internet!!! This means if I want to play the uncensored version of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails, I can! If I want to take requests via twitter, I can do that easily. If I want to post pictures from concerts I can do that!!! Video recorded performances of bands playing live, video interviews and more are all possible.

This website is the future of radio. To me, the only advantage of being on an FM signal is the ability to pick us up in your car, but did you know now you can listen to Indie with a simple FM transmitter on your iphone? We'll be on live365.com which means you'll be able to stream us via itunes, winamp, iphone, blackberry, windows media player and more. Plus in car internet radio will be here soon, and this technology is only getting better and less expensive as time passes.

For now, this IS where I want to be, and I can't tell you how excited I am to play you deep tracks from my personal library, to the have the ability to stream club music LIVE, to be doing my show LIVE from ANYWHERE I want to, even from Peak 9 in Breck!!! As long as the internet is there, I can be there-LIVE!

It's for these reasons and more that I'm EXTREMELY happy about the opportunity to focus my show toward an online audience. I love talking about the Rockies, I love having Birdman on the show, and I can now play the songs they want to hear without asking for a radio edit!

As Indie303.com launches, we will be in beta mode for quite a while, because we want YOU to build this site. We welcome your feedback, your artwork, your ideas.

Really all I can say is get ready Colorado - big things are in the works.

_Ralphie_

OMG - so I just listened to the last bits of 101.5 and I hear the new format begins with MOTLEY friggin CRUE? so you take a station that actually played something new and exciting (instead of just talking about it) and replace it with stale 20 year old cheese metal. and not that I dislike metal - I like good things in just about every genre out there, but please.....

Brandy says:

THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indie 101.5 was a breath of fresh air. They played a perfect combination of music and now we have to listen to this???? Beyonce? Tone Loc? Motley Crue? The best radio station in Denver just died. RIP Indie. You will be GREATLY missed!!

R.I.P., 101.5. Since moving back to Denver, you have been a breath of fresh air in a very smelly radio environment. Thanks!

I am bummed out to see this station disappear. What am I going to listen to when I forget my I-pod? KBCO? KTCL? I think not.

Freshie says:

Indie 101.5 will be missed, for a few seconds, while I walk from the car to my laptop to tune in to the new, even more exciting version online . . . No need to support the upcoming format of that real estate on your dial - by listening to it or grousing about it. That type of automat-lineup-format comes with its own, built in crowd of listening and consuming lemmings.

Having said that - when you forget your iPod - remember radio 1190, KVCU in Boulder @ CU. Still fresh, and listener supported . . . Not quite as free, maybe, as Indie303.com (still under FCC regs), but still refreshing!

WTF is that crap on there now? Stripper radio???? Denver has the worst strippers in the country, besides Reading PA.
Seriously, Denver radio blows.

Kevin Wesley says:

That station was hit or miss. They would play some weird song i never hear anymore. And then keep fucking playing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Lame. They really got my hopes up that they really were different...and then like every other awesome radio station Denver has ever had (remember 92x?) they get their legs pulled out from underneath them. Indie303...great...how do I get that on my car stereo again???

Posted On: Saturday, Aug. 1 2009 @ 5:18PM
Aaron says:

Sad for radio, but now maybe we can get some more variety in local music. I used to think I was the only person who played The Swayback on the radio until I moved here and listened to 101.5, then soon realized they're only playing one song. Dip into the local artists' back catalog, Indie303. Pretty please?

I'm calling BS on this. Did anyone hear that interview with Candy on "The Pole?" Something fishy is going on.

Brian says:

What I wrote to their management:

What is up with this POLE crap???? Just another radio station that you will have to take off the air in 6 months!! You don't know what you got till it's gone... you lost a lot of loyal listener ship just to play Motley Crew, some overplayed BS east coast rap sh*t that people are already listening to on another station and corporate rock that I can fine on The Fox... but it’s cool... you throw on MC Hammer of all the shit, and when I heard Motley Crew, Girls, Girls, Girls... I know it must have been a paramount moment in your lives... did you drink Bourbon and give each other a high-five with that? Please come spin house at Eck’s Saloon while you’re at it... if you went to college you must have majored in fucked up corporate business practices 101 and how to make fuc*ed up decisions in a recession via radio in the smaller markets of middle America.... Denver sucks today worse than it did prior to 7/31!

Dude... rethink... bring back the Indie!!!! Your listener share will not increase with this new format... you know it, Obama knows it and will drink beers with a cop to prove it and lord knows Denver metro will prove it!

a big fan says:

I am so MADDDDD! I was telling everyone I knew to listen to this awsome radio station. I looked forward to listening to it,especially on the weekend. It is the first station I have on when I get in my truck. I was so pissed when I heard "THE POLE". What the hell is that, who is going to listen to this crap? This shit is already on the other radio stations. I already know that this web stream is not going to work, and Indie will lose all those fans they have developed in the last year or so. If there is anything that the fans can do we will do it. BRING BACK INDEPENDENT RADIO!!!!!

KCUV died last year, now Indie is gone. Why can't the good stations make it? Now it's either KBCO or KTCL..truly pathetic stations.

Posted On: Monday, Aug. 3 2009 @ 3:05PM
Allie says:

It was a sad moment to realize that Indie was gone; I loved the fresh mix of music and would even tolerate all the stretches of static-ridden reception just to listen to something that no one else was playing... Seriously, the reception was horrible, but the music was great. I like the thought of Indie303.com, but seeing as how the only chance I get to listen to music is when I am driving, the web-version is going to be impossible for me to adapt to.Were the ratings really so bad that someone out there thinks that a stunting bout of "stripper music" en route to another talk show station will improve the ratings? Somehow I doubt it.

Posted On: Monday, Aug. 3 2009 @ 7:53PM
derek says:

This 101.5 The Pole is a joke. It's what they call "a stunt" in the radio world to get some press until they unveil another completely lame, irrelavant, cost-efficient, copycat format that is working somehwere else they own a station.
Indie 101.5 was cool. Now I'll go back to Octane, Faction, and the other cool XM/Sirius COMMERCIAL FREE music stations. For $10/mnth, it's well worth it.

Posted On: Wednesday, Aug. 5 2009 @ 3:25PM
Michelle says:

That was a joke. Now it is right-wing talk radio. Talk about a switch. So 101.5 may have not been the most popular advertising $$ radio station but that was no reason to pull the plug. Denver radio is the worst ever - there are no alternatives. I am back to my mp3 player in the car and at work - I can only stream at home.

LAMES!! The whole station sucks! From the loser washed up dj['s to the whole bankrupt mess called Denver radio Station! They take a major 'L' for this shit......
