George Crumb music festival comes to CU Boulder

​From September 8 to 11, CU Boulder will celebrate the life and work of avant-garde composer George Crumb at the George Crumb at 80 Music Festival. For those unfamiliar with his work, Crumb is an award winning (a Pulitzer for music in 1968, a Grammy in 2001) modern composer famed for using unusual timbres and amplified instruments in his works. He got his start at CU Boulder and has since gone on to become an icon in American music, influencing generations of composers.

Festival highlights include the Colorado premiere of "Songs from a Forgotten World" and the world premiere of "The Ghosts of Alhambra," along with several other performances, a panel discussion, composition seminar and more. Admission to the festival is free. If you enjoy what you hear, the famed Kronos Quartet will perform "Black Angels," a Crumb work for amplified string quartet, on October 2.
