Every Friday we spotlight the hottest cats behind the decks in the MHC, grilling them to gain some insight on what it takes, exactly, to get the party rocking, to find out about their most treasured crate digging experiences and what they really think when we stumble up to them half cocked and ask them to play that new song by such and such -- you know, the one that goes... This week: DJ KTone, the host of the Wild Out Wednesdays. Read the full interview after the jump.

Name: DJ Ktone The Turf DJ

Club night(s): W.O.W. Wild Out Wednesdays at Iliff Park Saloon, Montly guest set @ Club Ivar (Hollywood, CA)

Style(s) of music you spin: Hip-hop, R&B, Old School, Top 40, Smooth Jazz

So what's your story, in 100 words or less? Started spinning in college, after graduation moved back to beat the streets and build my brand. I stayed heavy on the mixtape and club scene, which also allowed me to expand in various markets (Denver, KC, St. Louis, Bay area, L.A., Las Vegas). Current goals are to strengthen my business (Still Livin Entertainment) through community involvement (Hip-Hop for the Homeless). I'm also an active family man, father and role model.

Name of a track you can't get out of your head: Angela Winbush - "Angel"

Name of an artist you're currently championing in your DJ sets: Rockie

Best club experience in another country (again, if you've had a good one)? I've been to Jamaica but didn't spin. The club experience was off the hook. The music was loud, people stayed on floor all night, and they love hip hop just like reggae.

Musical mantra: It will get greater later.

Favorite DJ experience:
I've had many of them, mostly at college in Missouri. College shows and crowds are the BEST. They are live and love to party.

Worst request: Wacka Flacka Flame -- any song of his.

Worst club faux pas you've committed:
When I was spinning at club vinyl in front of a packed house and I accidently moved the cross fader with my stomach and didn't know ... dead silence for about twenty seconds ... LOL

Most treasured vinyl score: My mom's whole vinyl collection, which includes classic funk, R&B, pop and rock.

What other music-related projects are you currently working on? Working on a number of mixtapes with artists in and out of the city: Kevin Pistol, Da Krew, Rockie, Box Boyz, Big Rich, Philthy Rich, G6 and more. Working on my next jazz mixtape project and a compilation mix/album.

What's something happening in the local music scene that should be getting more attention?
The "Sound." The music in Denver has improved highly in the past five to six years and our "sound" is one that is ready to compete nationally. We have songs in full rotation in multiple clubs and mixtapes and artists doing lots of shows and tours throughout the country. We are next.

What elements would your fantasy club night entail? Late hours, no violence and a comma in the pay every night.

Question we didn't ask you but you often ask yourself: Why do I put so much time into artists in the city?

Next time we can see you spin: Wednesday, December 2 @ Iliff Park Saloon, Thursday, December 3 @ Paladium for Webbie Show, and Friday, December 4 @ live in-store at Angelos in Aurora at 4 p.m., then Winter Wonderland Charity event at 9pm City Hall on Broadway.
