Noise lovers, rejoice! This weekend, Old Curtis Street (2100 Curtis Street) will be transformed into a celebration of all things noisy, experimental, grating and possibly hearing-damaging, courtesy of Denver Noise Fest (look for an interview with the festival's curators Todd Novosad and John Gross in this week's paper).

Almost forty acts from across the US, including a healthy contingent from right here in Colorado, are gathering for the event. And although the name recognition of most of them is marginal -- turns out noise isn't a genre that gets a lot of media love or attention -- there are a few acts that locals will recognize, such as Nervesandgel, Married in Berdichev and Andrew Lindstrom.

That being said, noise acts have some pretty kick-ass names -- the kind of names that almost demand you go check them out, if only to tell them how offensive the name is. It's hard to not wonder what the hell is up with acts with names such as Princess Army Wedding Combat, Tarrustbleedingskindirtyskygasoline, Pop Culture Rape Victim, Syphilis Sauna or Pulsating Cyst (yes, those are all real acts slated to play).

There are also three visual artists and four DJs, including the one and only Little Fyodor, who promises he'll be playing a mix of appropriate noise and some "ironically contrary" material, which should be good to give your ears a break.

If your curiosity is piqued, or you already had a healthy (unhealthy?) love of all things noise, you can join the fun/ordeal for $10 a night, or $15 for a two-day pass, supposing you're old enough to drink. Noise cadets from 18-20 will have to shell out $15/night or $20 for both days. Tickets can be purchased at the door and the noise begins at 7 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday.

There's also a potluck noise brunch called Harsh Toast Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3547 Brighton Boulevard. For more details, including a full lineup, visit denvernoisefest.com, or find it on Facebook and MySpace.
