SP Double moves to Florida, gets love for new track with Royce Da 5'9

Earlier this month, with very little fanfare, SP Double, one of the area's more promising MCs, picked up stakes and headed for the notably sunnier confines of South Florida. The move comes just as SP -- who just inked a deal with Digital Dollar, an independent imprint from the Sunshine State with major distro -- appears to be on the verge of at least a minor breakthrough and perhaps more.

"Gangsterr," a track Sp released earlier this week featuring Royce da 5'9, Kid Vishis, King Heem & Termanology, got a front page nod yesterday on hiphopdx.com and caught the notice of hiphopsite.com and 2dopeboyz.com. And this comes on the heels of SP being picked up by Clockwork Music, a management firm headed up by Dan Green that also represents M.O.P., AZ, Statik Selektah and Cormega.

SP made the move, which he says is semi-permanent at this point, at the behest of his label head, who encouraged him to set up shop in Flordia so that he could be more intimately involved with the whole recording process. The MC's burgeoning career has benefited from a number of fortuitous encounters. SP and Green, for instance, met in Denver when the former opened up for Guru, and the two kept in touch over the years. Likewise, the rapper met the head of Digital Dollar by happenstance, when SP flew out to visit a friend at Full Sail University.
