Paper Bird have been hinting at big news in the last few days and big news they delivered today: The group's second full-length album When the River Took Flight -- recorded by Bob Ferbache and mixed by John McVey at Coupe Studios -- is slated to be released on July 27 to fine retailers everywhere. Rather get it from the band? You can probably do that at the CD release show three days later, July 30 at the Gothic Theater with Ian Cooke and The Beaten Sea.

Wile Coyotes: Before going on an extended and indefinite hiatus last November, the duo of Zach Tipton and Adam Halferty were strong contenders for Denver's most exciting up-and-coming band. Since then we've gotten some excellent releases from Tipton's I am the Dot side project, but nary a peep about the status of the Coyotes. That changed with the recent announcement that Young Coyotes will be returning to the studio this summer to record a full-length follow up to their two debut EPs. Details beyond that are scarce and there's no indication that the band will resume playing live shows, but any news is good news in this case.

D-Town: Since d. biddle frontman and author Duncan Barlow left town, he's been plenty busy with teaching, writing, temporarily reforming his seminal hardcore band Endpoint for a series of benefit shows in Kentucky, getting stung in the eye by a wasp (really, this just happened to him) and other fun activities. Apart from a couple d. biddle shows, though, our city has been notably lacking in the Duncan Barlow-driven awesomeness. We'll get a temporary reprieve from this Barlow-less condition tomorrow, June 2, when he plays a one-night-only DJ set at Lost Lake Lounge. There's no cover, but you should buy him a drink and tell him you're sorry about his wasp-stung eye.
