Okay, music history might not be the best word for this. It's more like a piece of music's present. Starting today, you can begin placing bids on the xx's lighting gear in an auction that runs through October 2, shortly after which the band will finally take a break from its endless tour schedule and return home to England. If waiting's not your game, you can snag them for the "buy it now" price of $5,000.
Like any self-respecting band, this isn't for xx's own benefit; the auction money will be donated to Amnesty International, and the winner will be the proud owner of a sweat-and-beer-soaked lighting rig. Of course, both of the lighting boxes include giant glowing x's on them, so if your band doesn't feature an x in it, you might want to steer clear of these -- unless, of course, you're interesting in acquiring the rig for memorabilia purposes.
If you ask us, it's a little weird that the band would even be doing this. We're aware that xx is relatively popular and all, but seriously? We can't really imagine people actually bidding on these, but maybe we're just not seeing the appeal of buying used gear.
