Didn't get tickets to the sold out Mumford & Sons show? Try Horrorpops instead.
Its hard to tell if a band is as popular in other states as it is in our fair square one -- as a music-listening population, Colorado fans are eclectic and devoted, coming out in droves for every style of music imaginable. So it's no surprise that Horrorpops, taking over the Gothic Theatre (3263 South Broadway) tonight, will be playing to a crowd as equally stoked as the sold out Mumford & Sons show happening on the other side of town.

Both bands employ a certain vintage feel, but Horrorpops are for the rockabilly fetishist -- the Danish band's dark, rebellious sound is characterized by singer and double bass player Patricia Day's plucking and howling. Flanked by gothic go-go dancers, Horrorpops' concerts are also burlesque-style live shows, set to the band's deathly beach party sound and year-round Halloween-ish antics.

So, while Mumford & Sons are pseudo-reminiscing about the dirty thirties Dust Bowl-era at the Ogden, Horrorpops will be tapping into Denver's penchant for country music from the dark side at the Gothic Theatre with Fangs on Fur and The Muertones. Tickets are $20 at the door. This show is 16 and up. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.
