Tonight: The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 at the Ogden Theatre
The role of DJ is an ever-evolving one, and while its old news that sets behind the turntables (or whatever the sonic mode of choice) can be a transformative live experience just like a good old rock n' roll performance, taking center stage still means putting on a damn good show. Northern Italy-repping Bloody Beetroots have been there, and certainly done that -- but have decided to change their game once again. Tonight, the Bloody Beetroots take this notion of musical performance and turn it inside out. ![]()
The DJ duo, molting and growing into a full band, take over the Ogden Theatre (935 East Colfax Avenue) tonight as The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77. Driven by a motive to both terrorize and amuse fans, the Beetroots marry live instrumentation with a preset punk aesthetic (see the band's manifesto), which seems like a winning combination for a dance show. Our only tip? Don't go to this show if you're afraid of dudes in scary sock masks. Or dudes in fitted hats, for that matter. Tickets are $25 at the door. Boyhollow opens the 10 p.m. show (doors are at 9 p.m.)
