Tonight's hi-dive show headliner Freelance Whales are great and all, but we think tour mates Miniature Tigers are equally worth a mention. Part Ben Gibbard, part Kevin Barnes, bandleader and backbone Charlie Brand creates the kind of intelligent pop music that can only get better with time.
Abandoning a home base of Phoenix for the hipper pastures of Brooklyn, Minature Tigers have been on an upward track ever since -- touring with Ben Folds in 2009, the band then recorded and released Fortress, this past summer, a follow-up to its well-received debut, Tell it to the Volcano. This show is 18 and up, and tickets are $12. Doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m.
