Tonight: Tumbledown at the Larimer Lounge

Building a second career in music can be a tough endeavor -- especially when you're Mike Herrera, and the world would like to pigeonhole you as a pop-punk kid from the '90s. But Herrera will be playing the Larimer Lounge tonight with Tumbledown, his latest well-worn and forever tattooed incarnation, sharing the bill with locals Tin Horn Prayer, The Gromet, and Banners or Bandages.

Herrera's teenage snarl is still there, but through Tumbledown, the 33-year-old steps out of the confines of MxPx's high-school stigma into a darker territory, one less concerned with social politics and more with drinking and breaking the law. Country and Western-inspired punk rock is a pretty fail-safe formula in this region -- see Suburban Home's alt country-heavy roster for evidence -- so Tumbledown should have no problem entertaining the locals. The show is 21 and up; tickets are $8. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m.
