Novus Folium crowned 2010's Best Band in Denver by KBPI

• Your screen name is DankNuggz_420...I don't think you oughta be telling anyone what to do until you grow up and be an adult. Seriously unless you are in high school playing Halo online, it's time to refer to yourself as something grown up. DankNuggz_420...I mean wow. 2012 can't come fast enough. Also SAM ftw.

• Actually, to those of us who make our living in the industry, the proliferation of derivative music DOES effect us ... a lot. Just like shitty and cheap furniture from overseas effects the business of talented carpenters (i.e. it's too expensive and you have to wait for it, even if it will outlive your kids, was crafted with love, and supports a real artist), derivative corporate-influenced (and approved) "music" effects the business of independent musicians (i.e. it's too weird, makes you have to use your brain, encourages you to form your own opinions, your not sure if it's okay to like because it's not on the radio and you can't buy the shirts at Hot-Topic, but it will also outlive your kids, and was crafted with love). As I journalist: I have to read about, write about, and sometimes listen to crap like this. As a human being: I have to think about how these poor guys have no idea (or even worse: that they do have an idea) how unoriginal, uninspired, and derivative their "ideas" are. We all have to deal with the detrimental effects of a society that keeps coughing-up the same thing over-and-over-and-over again. What happens to the world when we keep lowering the bar? Think about it. When ABSOLUTELY EVIL corporations like Clear Channel are the be-all-end-all of taste-making ... we have a problem; society has a problem, and humanity at-large has a problem. If you can't see or understand why music like this represents or proliferates that problem then I don't know what to say; that could be a Ph.D. thesis in its own right, but it should also be common knowledge. (Metaphysics of Quality, anyone?) These poor kids grew-up listening to shitty music on shitty corporate radio stations and watching shitty corporate bands on shitty corporate television and they think that they are making art. I don't blame them; ignorance is a social problem, but it does ultimately fall on the individuals to make an effort to change it. Bad/corporate "art" effects everyone in a very, very negative way, and the fact that most people aren't aware WHY or HOW makes it probably one of the most frightening epidemics on the planet. Someone above said the band is (actually all three bands are) tight, and I agree, but these guys need to lock themselves in a room with material like Bitches Brew or the Mahavishnu Orchestra for a year, take off the fucking eye-liner and fingernail polish, and find something worthwhile within themselves to express. As of now they are just reinforcing oppressive corporate ideology, whether they know it or not, and whether or not anyone agrees that they are or not.

• Why do people get so bent out of shape about this? I mean, its not like any of you go to Herman's Hideaway or Eck's to see these bands play. You don't listen to KBPI and you certainly don't listen to that kind of music in general. You think it is silly - so what is the point in coming down so hard on it? It doesn't effect you in any way whatsoever.

• I knew when I read the headline that this was going to disappoint. I mean, what does KBPI know about music anyway? My take: Even if these bands are tight, they are in no way - not even close - to the best band in Denver. I'm not sure what the best band in Denver is, but it definitely is not a bunch of re-hashed mainstream rockers.

• Jeez dutch get their dicks out of your mouth Dutch! Are you their 'manager'? Cos shitty local bands ALWAYS have 'managers'...hey guys I got you a 'gig' at Iliff Park Saloon...NICE BRO! "Novus Folium earned this year's title, joining the pantheon of past winners Adam's Ruin, Lost Point, 20XIII and No 1 Left Standing" ahahahahhahahaha PANTHEON. Yeah, nice. These guys still killing it at Herman's or what?

• I saw Novus Folium open for Nautical Mile at the Fox Theatre in Boulder a couple months ago and they impressed the hell outta me and I'm not really a fan of the kind of metal and hard rock. That band has undeniable talent and a pretty sizeable (and growing) fanbase. No surprise they won this radio contest, that band has the goods.

• It always surprises me how much room for interpretation there is when using the term "original music." Sounds like AFI, Creed, Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against, and all that other "hardcore" emo-rock bullshit that's been happening for far too long now. This band has no identity guys with black shirts and eyeliner screaming about their hearts over chunky/buzzy guitar riffage is totally played-out. I will say that they are a tight band, but that's where the praise will end. Good on these guys for getting Clear Channel (read: corporate bullshit ideology pushers) to vote for their particular brand of mediocrity, but this music sucks, is totally unoriginal, and anyone that thinks this is the best thing happening in Denver right now obviously has very monochromatic, mainstream taste in music, and has no idea what's happening in this town. (What else would one expect from a KBPI listener?) This article is wildly depressing.

• These 3 bands may quite possibly be the best thing to ever come out of Denver. Original music, hard core bass lines, ripping guitars and thrashing drums. All 3 singers have that "it" factor as well. KBPI, you hit the nail on the head...
