Meet Force Publique, our latest infatuation

There are few things that bring us joy quite like finding a new act to get all excited about. It's kind of like finding a twenty-dollar bill in the pocket of a jacket you haven't worn in a while. We're enjoying that feeling right now listening to "Still Falls Apart," by Force Publique.

Give it a spin and see if you hear what we hear [cue admittedly tortured metaphor/similes]: Pushed forward by a pulsing bass line and a clangy, insistent, mechanized beat, dark, partially disembodied vocals lead a brooding yet bewitching melody down darkened hallways past ominous pillars of electro distortion, as tendril-like bleeps, squeals and squelches twist heavenward.

The outfit -- due at the Meadowlark on Saturday, February 5, for The Pirate Signal's video-release party -- played its first show at the Larimer Lounge in December and is releasing a new track every month, beginning with "Still Falls Apart" (below). The plan, according to James Wayne, who plays synth and makes up half of the duo with his girlfriend singer/bassist Cassie McNeil, is to release one track a month for the rest of the year.

If you like what you hear and can't wait for the next installment, there are three more streamable tracks on the band's SoundCloud page. Enjoy!
