Tonight: Helmet at Summit Music Hall

0329_helmet.jpg
Just one of the many generations of heavy acts on the Metalliance Tour stopping in Denver tonight, Helmet perfectly represented the era from which it emerged. Formed in 1989, the band first found prominence in the mid-'90s when the "alternative" blanket covered every band from the Afghan Whigs to White Zombie.

As heavy as the Melvins but looking more like Fugazi (and perhaps taking a musical cue or two from the D.C.-based act), Helmet's melodic sound struck a chord with fans of metal and hardcore, as well as the then-burgeoning alt-nation.

Through several decades of lineup changes, disbandings and reunions, guitarist, vocalist and founder Page Hamilton has been the ever-stoic leader of Helmet, which released its seventh studio album, Seeing Eye Dog, last year. This show is all-ages, and tickets are $25. Doors open at 6 p.m.; bands start at 7.
