If you don't recognize the name Collapse yet, rest assured, you will. The band, which was formed by Zac Joe from Cephalic Carnage and is fronted by Ben Pitts of To Be Eaten, just released its first 7-inch split on the relaunched Ash From Sweat Records.
To celebrate the release, Ash From Sweat has posted one of two tracks from the record, and an unreleased cut from the recording session, "Destroy Industry," which is a shredder of song that gives off the vibe of an '80s arcade filled with screaming monsters. If you dig what you hear, be sure to pick up the 7-inch from Ash From Sweat.
On the complete other side of the spectrum, we've got a four-song preview of the newest from Bocumast Records, Patrick Lee's Passerine, slated for release on June 7. All we're privy to is four of the final album's thirty conceptual tracks that are dubbed "digital bird songs." That's more fitting than you'd think, too, as the four tracks embedded below certainly evoke the feeling of being lost in nature while bird watching.
Listen intently, and you'll hear equal parts Blockhead, J-Dilla and Books evident on a track like "Black-Billed Cuckoo," but then "American Redstart" sounds more in line with the blissed-out tones of early Boards of Canada. That might not seem that eclectic, but the point is that Passerine knows when to keep its calls recognizable and when to when to hide them. It's a damn cool concept too.
