Paul Oakenfold, Dots and more on this weekend's Dance Card

It's a slower weekend in dance music than this city has seen quite a while, but don't despair: We still found several options for your booty-shakin' pleasure this weekend. First up: The ever-dependable Forever Fridays at Beta will feature Zodiac Nights (it's your turn, Gemini!) with DJ Shares vs. DJ Petey. Don't like what's on the main floor? Head to the second-floor lounge for P.U.N.C.H.I.S. with zOoLoGiKo featuring Angel Castro, Mere and Jeff Bartosik. (9 p.m., 21+, $10, ladies no cover, $6 Bacardi specials all night)

Iuengliss is releasing his Blank Matter CD and tape tonight at Rhinoceropolis; he'll be playing a live AV set. Gorinto will also DJ, and Cacheflow, Hideous Men and Alphabets are all slated to play, too. (9 p.m., all ages, $5)

Lipgloss at La Rumba is throwing down Breakfast Club, an '80s rager with guest DJ A-Ray and Lipgloss residents boyhollow and option4. Make sure to dress yourself in your neon, asymmetrical '80s best! Break out the Ray-Bans! (9 p.m., 21+, free before 10 p.m., $5 after)

The legendary Paul Oakenfold will be playing the intimate rooms of Beta this Saturday with Cognition + T-RAV and Tommy Michael. (9 p.m., 18+, $20)

Competing with Mr. Oakenfold on Saturday night (and likely to win out, as Paul seems to be less popular these days) is Dots, an MP3J event for ravers, by ravers. Don your polka dots and glowsticks and get your PLUR vibes rolling for DJ Civil, DJ Sikie, DJ Fernx, Casper and more. (8 p.m., 16+ with valid ID, 21+ balcony party, $10 presale and $20 at the door)

And at the Funky Buddha this Saturday, Kevin Alves celebrates a Birthday Bash with Pariah, Anomaly, Tangle and Sang Dinh, with DJ Danny in the basement and Dave Peacock on the roof. (8 p.m., 18+)

On Sunday, the Blend presents Love and Liberty on the Quixotes patio; Joshua Heath, DJ Sense, Jimmy Maheras, Brick Lee, Hoang, Sami Tee, Uriah West and Tommy Gray are all slated to play. (2 p.m., 21+, $10 cover includes food)

And the Treehouse Collective is hosting a Sunday rooftop party at Bar Standard with Ejay, Ivy, Brick Lee (busy man!), Khalib, Isaac H, Styles Davis and Travis Press. (3 p.m., no cover)

Oakenfold has sucked since about 2000. When he was bangin' trance in the mid to late 90s, he was quite good.  If he played all pre-2000 records, it might be good. Otherwise, go see someone more current.
