With plenty of time to recover from the long fourth of July holiday, this weekend is shaping up to be just as good, with dozens of shows happening across the city. Tonight, Jessica Lea Mayfield makes an appearance at the Larimer Lounge with Ferraby Lionheart and Bare Bones. The young Black Keys protégé from Ohio has a melancholic voice reminiscent of Hope Sandoval, which is sweetly accompanied by an array of live instrumentation and synthesized sound. (21 & up, 8 p.m. doors, $10-12.)

If you're looking for something a little more dance-oriented this evening, Mile High Soul Club takes over Meadowlark for its throwback party. Local staple DJ Tyler Jacobson is joined by Dog Boy and Scott Damnit! on the turntables, and brings only the best in soul, funk and R&B out on wax for this monthly shindig. (21 & up, 8 p.m. doors, no cover.)

Saturday, the legendary DJ Quik brings it to Casselman's
with MTV's America's Best Dance Crew competitors Break EFX, plus a slew of local acts. The prolific Cali rapper and producer will be celebrating the life of friend and collaborator Nate Dogg with this special performance. (21 & up, 8 p.m. doors, $20.)

The night also sees locals ManCub playing at the Hi-Dive with Mercuria and the Gem Stars and Flashlights. We profiled the experimental noise duo this week, who are celebrating the release of the band's latest CD this evening -- which comes in its own handmade denim case. (18 & up, 8 p.m. doors, $6.)

Sunday, singer-songwriter Bob Schneider comes to the Bluebird with Glowing House. From Bluegrass to funk, the Austin-based multi-instrumentalist's style is an eclectic mix of jammy dance styles, paired perfectly with Schneider's humorous story-song lyrics. (16 & up, 7 p.m. doors, $25.25-26.)

Also on Sunday, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals make an appearance at the Ogden Theatre, after playing sold out Red Rocks shows with Kenny Chesney and The Avett Brothers earlier in the weekend. the Vermont-based group's brand of Americana rock and roll tends to defy genre classification, with a little bit of country and blues in the mix too. (16 & up, 7 p.m. doors, $25-30.)
