Suburban Home Records gearing up to celebrate its sweet sixteen in September at 3 Kings Tavern

It's hard to believe that Suburban Home Records has been around nearly two decades now. Seriously. Where does the time go? The label -- home to heralded bands like the Gamits and Drag the River over the years -- has weathered a lot of storms and this coming September, it will be celebrating its sixteenth year in operation like it has in past years with a big old two-day drunken shindig at 3 Kings Tavern on Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10, with some very special guests.

As with its past birthdays, this year's lineup is shaping up to be a blockbuster with Two Cow Garage slated to perform It's a Shame About Ray by the Lemonheads in its entirety with freshly minted Denverite, the utterly bewitching Lizzie Huffman, filling the role of Juliana Hatfield.

"Some of the best ideas are born over drinks at a bar. The Guinness Book of World Records began as a discussion at a pub about what the fastest flying species of bird," Surburban Home honcho Virgil Dickerson points out before also noting that, "Conversely some of the worst ideas get their start this way, too. While Micah and Shane of Two Cow Garage were in town this past weekend, we were having a few drinks and somehow got on the discussion of The Lemonheads.

"At some point in the conversation," Dickerson continues, "Shane says, 'I've always wanted to perform the entire album It's a Shame About Ray. Being the huge Lemonheads fan that I am, I told the guys that I would be honored if they might consider performing It's a Shame About Ray at Suburban Home's 16th Anniversary. Much like Tom Cruise in "Risky Business", the guys said, 'Fuck It' and agreed to make it happen."

Friend of Backbeat and frequent blog commenter, James Freeman, is evidently planning to record the whole shebang, so Dickerson says we shouldn't be too surprised if a free download surfaces at some point. Although more acts will be announced every week until the anniversary weekend party happens during the second weekend in September, the other bands rounding out the bill so far include Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys, Michael Dean Damron from I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House, Micah Schnabel and Joey Briggs.
