Tonight: Liturgy at the hi-dive
It is hard to believe black metal band Liturgy (playing tonight at the hi-dive with Collapse and Barnacle) has only been around for a handful of years. The Brooklyn quartet -- led by Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, whom we spoke with in advance of this evening's show -- sounds like it has put decades of work into its intricate layers of guitars and pummeling beats. 
Hunt-Hendrix started Liturgy as a solo project in 2008, and the guitarist and screeching vocalist has since taken the music to a bigger level with the formation of the full band for its first full-length release, Renihiliation. The transcendental black-metal band is now on tour in support of its second album, 2011's Aesthethica, a record that proves this group stands alone in its genre. This show is eighteen-and-up, and tickets are $10. Doors open at 8 p.m., and bands start at 9.
