CU Welcome Fest yesterday with Big Gigantic and Paper Diamond.

CU WELCOME FEST at FARRAND FIELD | 8.20.11

The University of Colorado at Boulder held the annual Welcome Fest for students attending the institution this fall. The student-only event was closed off to the general public, but it still managed to pull big numbers to see Big Gigantic, Paper Diamond, Robotic Pirate Monkey and Common Ties, all of which are Boulder-based acts.

The University of Colorado bustled with activity yesterday as new and returning students unpacked into their dorms. In the foreground, a student found a waxed bench to practice his nollie heel flip crooked grinds on. Luckily, this bench happened to located directly next to a poster plastered bulletin tower.

As this event was put on by CU's Program Council, the only way to gain entry was to swipe your BuffOne student identification.

WelcomeFest is CU's way of saying "Time to make some friends." Freshman and returning students all wore smiles for show.

Paper Diamond's set is always a pleasure to watch because of the energy Botwin puts into it. Though you can't see it, Botwin controls and mixes directly from an iPad, giving him the freedom to move as he pleases on stage.
