Reader: Furthur show total disappointment, lacked energy and song selection was weak

• yeah unbroken has really grown live since the one i heard in charlotte in 95 right after the blissful phillie breakout explosion-they really jam it out now and i love the setlist-if they would have played setlist like these in the later years of jerry people would have had heart attacks- the band is having fun again and so am i-bobby singing jerrys ballads um yeah i do find that a bit painful-sorry bobby

• You heard Phil . . . during the organ pitch!  "nor sure when I will be back" while barely being able to talk through emotion.  Doubt they will be back as PHurthur.

• please . . . don't waste out time.

• Exactly T!  You don't know much about the band or aprreciate the sophistication of the music to say that about the setlist.  Anthem of the Sun is still in it's heyday!  Listen to that Caution - best ever.  It didn't matter what they played it's all good.  When it's gone most of you knuckleheads, if you really appreciate and are about the music, will regret you failed to find the enjoyment.

• Buddy you are a downer yourself. Sounds like you are and angry old man trying to live in the past and not embrace the NOW!  You must be a moron if you it takes you that long to get home and blame it on Red Rocks traffic.  Park in the south lot rookie! About the show.  If you have to over analyze, pick apart, dissect and autopsie (the Dead) like this and can't appreciate the energy of the now then stop going to shows and stay home and watch reality TV. If you think Phil was lame or low energy in anway and was not playing in the ZOne, perhaps the best ever then you are fkn deaf!

• Scarlet Fire? They just played that in Montana.  You would've complained if they did play it.  They play the same shows each show.....great article man.

• I'm not trying to be a deadhead like you obviously are. I was a deadhead 20 fucking years ago. Now I'm a dad and husband. I don't need to associate who I am with a band who doesn't really care about my existence except to ensure a seat bought at their shit concert. I fucking love the grateful dead, but, this aint the good ol grateful dead I know. So I will listen to the archives in my garage with my boys while smokin a j rather than spending 70 bucks being disapointed.

• blah blah blah about song selection. these shows sucked for the same reason rat dog shows suck. bobby can only play twelve bar blues and slight variations. anything else he gets lost. and that's why he makes the songs so slow. he can't keep up. have you ever listened to a live grateful dead recording. 

• Wow...Honorable mention in a post! I'm flattered :) Indeed my take still stands. But I will happily climb on board with whatever it takes to discourage people from going to Furthur. This deal blew up on us back in '87 and I will not let that happen again if I can help it. Please don't go see Furthur. I don't want you there. None of us do.

• "How much longer will you have the chance to hear Phil, Bob and the ensemble?  Keep the big picture in mind on this.  During the Eugene show a dear old Dead vet of decades smiled and said, "Can you imagine how lucky we have been to be alive in the era to hear the Dead's music? " the big picture has nothing to do with the slow tempo they play at. If anything, in the big picture, this is the slow twilight years for the 'dead'. As much as the die-hards hate to hear it, the energy isn't there -- but it clearly could be. lets face it, as much as it might make you *feel* good to hear bobby on stage -- the guy slows down the entire band. We all know that Kadlecik can play any era, that joe russo is one of the most talented young drummers on the scene and that Chimenti is one of the best keyboard players around. Phil Lesh is still playing top notch (and the tempo from Phil shows just a few years ago shows he can still keep up) -- so whats slowing things down? Walrus Bob Weir. (also, you admit you weren't there -- so what are you REALLY commenting on here??) For someone who seems to really be into the Dead, It's time to separate the good vibes you get from hearing them together on stage still from actually being critical of the music -- something dead fans used to be pretty adamant about.

• don't worry twoody, these people are dumbos. I didn't hear one negative review from anyone who was at the show... And the guy complaining about the setlist... come on!, each night had a red hot setlist. they can't play all of your favorites in one run, they have shows before and after this too.

• One one night you get St Stephen, Dark Star, Playing in the Band, The Eleven, and Morning Dew (among others); on another night you get Chinacat, I Know You Rider, Box of Rain, Ramble on Rose, The Other One, Loser (and so much more), and you complain about song selection???? The blogger is a fool, and I am being kind!!!!!

• Have to say I am baffled by many of the negative comments, especially after hearing 2 absolutely energetic, spectacular shows in Eugene.  Will have to listen to the RR tapes and judge for myself.  However, one thing to keep in mind.....  How much longer will you have the chance to hear Phil, Bob and the ensemble?  Keep the big picture in mind on this.  During the Eugene show a dear old Dead vet of decades smiled and said, "Can you imagine how lucky we have been to be alive in the era to hear the Dead's music?   And not only that, to be able to hear them keeping the spirit of the music alive after Jerry checked out?"  And it is true.  The music is still alive to me.  Sure, good nights and bad nights and Bob's treatment of the songs can be baffling at times.  That said, I am far from ungrateful to have been, and still be here for the ride, and having realistic expectations isn't too much of a stretch.  It's still all good, even when it isn't up to our lofty and sometimes unrealistic expectations.

• I suggest the person who wrote this should stop coming to shows; somebody else could use the ticket.  Among the many things he said that I disagree with, I have to take issue with his take on Phil's singing.  I used to cringe when Phil sang, but he has obviously worked at improving it, and I actually enjoy Phil singing now--he's good.  Also, I had a friend at the show who said it was great (he's been to at least 150 shows, too).  Weak song list?  Again, I disagree.  Simply put, I just don't think you get it. I've known plenty of people who have been to numerous shows that just don't get it.  Keep living in the past--the rest of us will go Furthur.  I just saw them at the Cuthbert in Eugene last week; you would have hated that show, too.  I loved it.

• Was there last night (10/2) and agree on the weak setlist. Also agree on the musicianship quality being better than any time since around 1991 or even a bit ealier than that. Anyway, I don't want to see these guys doing second rate songs from their catalog at this late stage. They could have busted out a much better set including Scarlet/Fire, Bertha, GDTRFB, etc. Instead we got Looks Like Rain and New Potato Caboose, cult songs in their heyday and now just bad songs.
