Gym Class Heroes enters top ten with Adam Levine's help, plus a look at this week's charts

​When did Adam Levine become such a pop god? Really? Throw the Maroon 5 singer's vocal on any track, and watch it hit the top ten right now. Case in point: "Stereo Hearts." It isn't the strongest Gym Class Heroes track (that distinction belongs to "Peace Sign/Index Down" with Busta Rhymes), and yet "Stereo Hearts" charted at number four this week on the Billboard Hot 100 -- thanks undoubtedly to the contribution of Levine.

McCoy and company have to know just as well as we do that there's no way in hell "Stereo Hearts" would have cracked the top ten without Levine's help. Even some YouTube users seem to agree, saying they only watch the "Stereo Hearts" video for Adam Levine. Smart move, Gym Class Heroes, smart move.

McCoy and Levine may share a songwriting credit on "Stereo Hearts," but it's Levine's newfound chops in writing a strong hook that has really helped out the song. See if you can listen to it without doing the "oh-oh-oh" bit by the second chorus -- yeah, that is Levine's work right there. Will it break the top three when the charts are updated on Friday? Probably. But it won't ever hit the top (Gym Class Heroes' and Travie McCoy's solo stuff has never charted higher than number four, actually). "Stereo Hearts" just doesn't have the bang! sizzle! or pop! that "Move Like Jagger" does.

Movers & Shakers: Speaking of Levine, "Moves Like Jagger" finally falls from the top of the Billboard Hot 100, as it's dethroned by Adele's "Someone Like You." This is the first time Adele's second single from 21 claims number one. Foster The People holds steady at number three with "Pumped Up Kicks," while LMFAO holds the fifth and sixth positions with "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It," respectively. The rest of the top ten doesn't see much change -- it's filled out this week with David Guetta's "Without You" (11-8) and Cobra Starship's "You Make Me Feel" (9-10). Rihanna ascends seven spots (16-9) with her newest effort with Calvin Harris, "We Found Love"; her previous single, "Cheers (Drink To That)" has begun its descent from the chart, falling six places (7-13) this week.

Across the Pond: Rihanna sees "We Found Love" hit the top spot on the Official Charts in the U.K. this week. It's her sixth number-one single there in five years, a new chart record. It probably doesn't hurt that Mr. Harris, whose major market is the U.K., is also a pop star in his own right over there. His latest, "Feel So Close," debuted and peaked at number two in the U.K. Expect Calvin's unique sound to become popular in the States soon, as "We Found Love" will likely chart at number one next week and Harris will then dethrone David Guetta as the dance-pop producer of the moment.
