This past Saturday at the Gothic, fans were treated to a softer side of Corey Taylor, the charismatic frontman of Slipknot and Stone Sour. On tour in support of his Seven Deadly Sins book, Taylor returned to Denver, which he considers a second home, and played an acoustic set, read excerpts from his book and took questions from the audience (one question was apparently so asinine that he just laughed and moved on). Over the course of nearly two and a half hours, Taylor treated the crowd to songs from his bands, as well as covers of tunes by Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, U2 and Alice in Chains. And he also shared a number of stories, including one of how once lived in Lakewood and worked at a porno store that he had dubbed "the slut hut," and another particularly humorous anecdote involving Taylor -- when Slipknot and Guns N' Roses shared a festival bill in Europe -- sneaking in to play Axl Rose's grand piano and placing his genitals on the keys. At the end of the show, Taylor invited everyone to join him in the parking lot afterward for an autograph signing session.
