American Idol Top 9: Heejun Han gets an attitude adjustment and is sent home

After he spent all season with a bad attitude, Heejun Han was finally sent home during last night's elimination round on American Idol.

It's not that Han was a poor singer -- in fact, he performed well throughout his time on the show -- it's that he just didn't seem committed to the Idol concept or to winning. Whether his awkward lack of rhythm during Wednesday's group tribute to Michael Jackson contributed to his departure, we won't ever know.

The two contestants who joined Hun in the bottom three were country darlings Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine, both of whom performed country songs on Wednesday.

Han's departure doesn't come as a surprise, nor do Cavanagh or Laine's failure to garner enough votes to stay out of the bottom three. Personality-wise, these contestants easily fall short of distinct individuals like Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, DeAndre Brackensick and Elise Testone. As this elimination and last week's prove: America's next Idol must have more than vocal chops; they must have a marketable personality.

Speaking of personality, Nicki Minaj popped in last night for a performance of "Starships" and semi-offended Jennifer Lopez in the process when she told Ryan Seacrest that she had been hoping to be a guest judge, asking Lopez to "move over a little bit."

Scotty McCreery, last season's champ, also performed his new single, "Water Tower Town." As you can imagine, it was the polar opposite of the "Starships" performance in every way.
