American Idol: Jeremy Rosado goes home, Top 12 move on

Jeremy Rosado goes home after "Ribbon In The Sky" failed to earn him enough of America's votes.
So there you have it. As of last night's elimination round, American Idol is now down to the Top 12, and the person sent home quite frankly deserved to go. Good job, America.

The top thirteen opened the show with Stevie Wonder's "As." For a group number, it was nothing special, but the inspired, yet awkward, delivery from Jermaine Jones made it all the more worth it.

Cut to the results and our predictions were spot on: Shannon Magrane was in the bottom four this week, but she wasn't sent home. Instead, Jeremy Rosado, who sang Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky," went packing instead.

Since this week was a special exception to the Idol formula, seeing the men compete with the women in an atypical, gender-oriented way -- the men had to sing Stevie Wonder, while the women did Whitney Houston, and that was that -- the bottom four was split into two of the least voted contestants from both camps. The bottom two men were Rosado and Jermaine Jones; the women were Elise Testone, the bottom female, and Magrane.

Instead of letting America's votes dictate exactly whom would be sent home last night, the judges were forced to make the decision for us. Between Rosado and Testone, they ultimately chose to save Testone. Whether she was worth saving or not, only time will tell. Frankly, we're still scratching our heads as to why DeAndre Brackensick is still around; we just don't understand his appeal in any way.

In between the suspense of the big reveal last night, Mary J. Blige, one of the mentors from Wednesday's show, performed "Why," a cut from her 2011 album My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1). Last year's Idol runner-up, Lauren Alaina, also performed her new single "Georgia Peaches." Alaina was good, but her performance would have done better with less movement around the stage

American Idol returns Wednesday as the Top 12 compete. Idol airs on Fox 31 at 7 p.m.
