American Idol recap: Whoa! Colton Dixon is sent home after a surprise elimination
And just like that, America got it wrong.
American Idol said goodbye to Colton Dixon last night in a surprising elimination.
On last night's results round of American Idol, one of the stronger, consistent contenders, Colton Dixon, was eliminated after two solid performances on Wednesday night. Apparently, fans didn't like his take on Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" or Earth Wind & Fire's "September" -- and Dixon himself didn't like them, either, as he apologized last night for not being himself during the performance round this week.
It's too bad that Dixon had to go; he offered up unique takes on always well-known songs by making them his own. The last Idol contestant truly to offer up such a personal styling was Adam Lambert in season eight.
Last night's bottom three was rounded out by Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh. We predicted Cavanagh, but who could have seen Testone in the bottom again? Or, for that matter, Dixon being eliminated? This week marks the fifth time Testone was in the bottom three, and the third time Cavanagh was. Dixon, however, had never placed in the bottom three before last night.
Besides the removal of Colton Dixon on last night's Idol, former winner Kris Allen performed his new single, "The Vision Of Love," and LMFAO performed "Sorry For Party Rocking." Ryan Seacrest also offered a brief tribute to the late Dick Clark, Seacrest's mentor and friend.
