Just over a year after opening The 1UP arcade and bar in LoDo, owner Jourdan Adler has taken over the space formerly occupied by Pete's Monkey Bar (717 East Colfax Avenue), which made its last pour on Monday night, and plans to open the 2UP next month. Adler says the 2UP is going to have a similar arcade and Skee-ball collections, and little bit smaller pinball collection.

For years, Adler has been friends with Jay Bianchi, who owns Sancho's Broken Arrow a few doors down and Quixote's True Blue, and also owned Dulcinea's 100th Monkey from 2002 to 2009, before Pete's Monkey Bar moved in. Adler has also known Pete's Monkey Bar owner Pete Penzastadler for thirteen years.

"It was a thing that just worked for everybody," Adler explains. "It wasn't like a hostile takeover. It was just one of those things that came up in conversation between Pete and I a couple of weeks ago, and it just made sense for everybody. We're excited. I know a lot of people will be excited. I know a lot of people are sad to see Pete's go, and the legacy of Dulcinea's, but it's going to be great. I know the Bianchis are excited for it to be there and play off each other."

Adler says he plans to keep the Steal Your Face bar that Bianchi put in when it was Dulcinea's, but he says he'll be cleaning the place up in the meantime. The 2UP is also going to try and harness the newer school jam band side of things while leaving the Grateful Dead realm to Sancho's.

The 2UP will open be open every day at 3 p.m. and, unlike the 1Up, will be limited to 21-plus. "So that cuts out parents bringing their kids and that kind of thing," he adds. "It will definitely be a different dynamic. We definitely want to cater to Capitol Hill and what's been there. I think it will be a great place for people to hit after the Fillmore, after the Ogden. I think I think it will have a great nightly crowd, but I think it will be a great place to hit before a show and after a show."

Second that. fucking door men too.

Hated It

I sincerely hope that the bartenders at the 2UP are twice as nice as the bartenders at the 1UP. That would make them 1/4 as nice as they should be.
