Flobots.org's pop-up brunch hosted by Wheelchair Sport Camp's Kalyn Heffernan

Hungry for change? Flobots.org have cooked up an idea for a unique pop-up brunch this Saturday, May 26, at the Meadowlark. For the brunch, which is geared toward raising money for Art to Action, a program that works with more than 2,000 DPS middle- and high-schoolers annually to provide oft-neglected musical education with conventional instruments, the Meadowlark's patio will be transformed into a pop-up restaurant complete with a gourmet breakfast spread provided by Foodie Call.

The event will be emceed by Kalyn Heffernan of Wheelchair Sports Camp and will have two seatings, one at 10 a.m. and one at 12:30 p.m. Those attending the first seating will be treated to music by Melissa Ivey and Chris G, saxophonist Abi McGaha Miller and Rubedo. The second seating features Jonny 5 and Heffernan with Marty Jones on washtub bass, plus Ian Cooke and members of Paper Bird.

Even as they enter into a new phase of their career, on the cusp of releasing a new album on a new label, Flobots remain closely tied to the community, as they have been since their formation more than a decade ago (before finding fame with Flobots, Jamie Laurie, aka Jonny 5, worked as a para-professional at East High School and helped students stay on track in conjunction with the A+ Angels mentoring program). In addition to Art to Action, Flobots.org also runs the Youth on Record program, which teaches young people in residential treatment centers about music production with computers and the Fight With Tools program, which teaches skills of civic engagement, community organizing and social awareness.

As you can see from the videos above, the Flobots frontman and his counterpart, T minus Katlyn, have differing views on the breakfast vs. lunch debate. Weigh in with your take by tweeting with the hashtag #breakfastvslunch and you could win a ticket to the brunch. Otherwise, tickets to the brunch are available at Flobots.org for $40.
