Update (7/24/12): If you haven't seen it yet, last night on their Twitter page, the folks at Playboy posted the above tweet in an effort to distance themselves from Evans's controversial tweet.

The entire local community is still in shock and clearly reeling this morning from the senseless and inexplicable act of inhumanity and violence that took place in Aurora last week, claiming the lives of our friends and loved ones. Deadmau5, the dependably outspoken Canadian-based EDM artist, doesn't live here, obviously, but he appreciates the gravity of the situation and took umbrage to an insensitive tweet from Playboy model Tricia Evans, who, not 24 hours after the shooting, joked "I heard the new Batman movie is really "to die for"! Too soon?"

The above reaction from Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) came following an earlier tweet from him on Friday morning in which he earnestly offered his condolences to the victim's families. Evans responded to Deadmau5's invective by first chalking it up to a difference of opinion ("Listen, apparently I have a different opinion than u. That doesn't make me a piece of shit.") and then mused in a subsequent tweet afterward, "Tragedies happen in our world every day. Jump off the bandwagon."

Evans was then splashed with a steady stream of vitriolic haterade, including death threats, by members of the Twitterverse who were likewise unamused by her glib joke.

To further inflame the issue, Evans baited Deadmau5 with the infamous image of the Joker asking, "Why so serious?" -- an image that she's currently using on her Facebook page, where she also posted an update admitting that she made a tasteless joke, owing to her twisted sense of humor.

During the furor, many of her followers rose to her defense, deriding Deadmau5 for his perceived moral sanctimony. Deadmau5, meanwhile, appears to have moved on to grappling with more existential matters.

It's not like all of the Playboy models are the epitome of class and intelligence.  She's basically an overpaid prostitute with body image issues who craves attention, be it negative or positive.

I hear that Mr. Zimmerman had that Twitter reply pre-staged in Ableton, and it let it auto-post while he was out for a smoke break...
