Ten essential gangsta-rap albums

2. Dr. Dre -- The Chronic
Responsible for the popularization of G-Funk, a genre that combined N.W.A.'s gangsta-rap lyrics with samples from Parliament-Funkadelic's P-Funk, The Chronic would shape the West Coast rap scene for years to come. The Chronic's lyrics, and particularly its skits, are obscene and objectionable in every way. Occasionally reflective but more often sexist and shallowly violent, the lyrics, when combined with Dre's hypnotic and deeply textured production, made for a finished product that transcends its subject matter as a troublesome addiction that can't and never will be forgotten.

I'd say that Boogie Down Productions wasn't a gangsta rap album. I'd say that you are missing DJ Quik "Quik is the Name". And before you put Scarface on there, you should have put Geto Boys. other honorable mentions include Notorious BIG, Too $hort, Warren G, and you have to mention the D.O.C. as he wrote a lot of the best gangsta rap songs out there.
