R.I.P., Joe Cahill: Memorial, Monday at the Fox, with the Motet and members of Leftover Salmon
Some more sad news to report for a music community that's still grappling with the losses of some other dearly departed friends: If you haven't heard, Joe Cahill, Leftover Salmon's lighting designer, passed away last week in New Orleans.
According to an item filed by the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Cahill, who had just finished a string of dates with Leftover Salmon, was shot during a home invasion in New Orleans on Sunday, April 28, where he was reportedly involved in a disturbance.
Cahill, a New Yorker who studied business administration State University of New York at Oswego and engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, came out west after graduating in the mid-'90s to Colorado, where he became an active and well-regarded member of the Boulder scene, handling lighting and production at the Fox and Boulder theaters, in addition to his roadwork with Leftover Salmon.
While services for Cahilll are slated to be held this Friday, May 10, in his home town of Yorktown Heights, New York, local friends and family are hosting a memorial benefit for Joe's daughter, Cassidy, at the Fox Theatre this Monday, May 13, featuring the Motet and members of Leftover Salmon.
Tickets for the memorial are $15, with no fees, and all proceeds will go directly to the Cassidy Cahill Fund. Donations can also be made directly to the fund at any Bank of the West location, or applied via Paypal. A raffle and silent auction will also be held to help raise funds. Our condolences to Cahill's many friends and family.
