Lipgloss celebrates twelfth anniversary this Friday at Beauty Bar
Michael Trundle (aka boyhollow)
After debuting Lipgloss as an indie-rock, '80s-underground dance night in 2001, co-founders Michael Trundle (aka boyhollow) and Tyler Jacobson slowly built their once-monthly dance night into an award-winning weekly Denver institution, one of the first to embrace the dance-punk craze of the mid-2000s. To celebrate the night's twelfth anniversary, Trundle is bring in electroclash pioneer Casey Spooner of Fischerspooner in for a DJ set on Friday, June 28, at Beauty Bar.
While this weekend marks twelve years for Lipgloss, it's also just over a year since the night moved to Beauty Bar to La Rumba, where it had been for eight years after starting at club 60 South (now 3 Kings Tavern). Trundle felt the night's original theme was being eclipsed by the dubstep and hard electro sounds of the modern scene, so last spring he moved to Beauty Bar, where it's returned to its original, more rock- and punk-fueled sound.
Over the last twelve years, Lipgloss has brought in a ton of national talent to guest DJ, including Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Marky Ramone (Ramones), Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem), Carlos D. (Interpol), BAIO (Vampire Weekend) and Miike Snow.
Resident DJs Tower and Largechild will also spin on Friday and tickets are $8 at the door or though Ticketfly.
