Jack Casey's Four Mile House closed

Jack Casey's Four Mile House, a Glendale fixture since for decades, appears to be closed. The bar, which won Westword's 2003 Best of Denver award for Best Happy Hour for Absolutely Free Food, started life as a barn, back in the days when what's now Glendale was filled with dairy farms dedicated to quenching Denver's thirst for more wholesome beverages. But by the time Jack Casey bought the place in the '60s, it was already a venerable tavern.

The tables that are usually on the patio are gone and there's a red "closed" sign on the door. There's no word yet on why the spot closed, but we will provide updated information when we have it.

It's becoming a Walgreens or Rite Aid. They bought that property and the one next to it....is Backbeat hiring actual reporters to investigate things? :)

Despite these many (undoubtedly true) tales of bad ownership, I'll always remember the 4 Mile House as the place I tied on my very first legal drunk all those years ago. RIP.

We found it refreshing to find an unpretentious place, devoid of douchebaggery and hipsters. It was a nice hole-in-the-wall.

Jack was  a world class dirt bag, and his kid too. Glad he lost his liquor license. The place smelled of urine and rot.

Jack refused to pay his employees.  He wouldn't do anything the place needed in order to keep people coming in.  He mistreated his bartenders, which meant there was someone new behind the bar every week, and they were never trained.  Often, they had never bartended and were left on their own.  There was no bouncer, ever, which is a dreadful idea with this clientele and one solo female behind the bar.  And by "behind the bar" what I mean is, "crying in the bathroom leaving the bar completely unattended for very long periods of time."  Jack actually offered me money to try to save the place by being a regular bartender.  I told him I had never bartended and would be the worst bartender in the history of ever.  That didn't deter him.  Hopefully the place will reopen as something better.  And by better, I mean absolutely anything.  Anything would be an improvement.

This place was a dump and deserved to be closed.

Used to be a great bar. Met my ex-husband there. It has been sketchy for years!

Jack Casey's closed because Glendale finally revoked their liquor license after YEARS of violations. The final straw was an evening a month or so ago when the bartender and only employee, sick of never being paid since Jack Casey never paid his employees, took the cash drawer and walked out, leaving patrons alone in the bar to serve themselves. Perhaps this was a place worth going to years ago, but in recent history it has been nothing short of a disaster.

He still owns the building so you have no idea what it will be next.

@CJ Nicolai we did sue him and won, the servers bartender and I all got what he owed us.  He had to pay me 13000.00 in back pay and I was his Accountant.  What is so funny to me is that he kept saying well as soon as King Soopers opens up we will do better...I heard that from 2003 to 2005 when I left to open my own business.  What a loser.
