Jody Savin and Randall Miller are preparing to release their latest film CBGB in a few months. If those names ring a bell, they should: These are the same filmmakers who announced plans earlier this year to start work on Caribou Records, a movie about the legendary Caribou Ranch recording studio in Nederland.

Curious to see where the film was at in production, we reached out to Nadine Jolson, the publicist for Savin and Miller's Unclaimed Freight Productions, yesterday, and she told us that Caribou Records has been pushed back. According to Jolson, the pair are about to start working on a Gregg Allman biopic, which they're in the midst of casting now and are aiming to shoot this winter.

Caribou Records is set to tell the story of Jim Guercio's iconic recording studio near Nederland, which attracted a parade of iconic acts like Elton John, John Lennon, Billy Joel, Chicago, the Beach Boys and Joe Walsh. The film, which will feature an ensemble cast of actors and musicians, could possibly start shooting next summer, says Jolson, "but with film land," she points out, "you never really know because it changes on a dime."

Guercio, who put the remaining 1,600 acres of Caribou Ranch -- the 4,000 acre property he purchased in 1971, where the famed recording studio sits -- up for sale last month for $45 million, is slated to be a producer on the film. Throughout the '70s and '80s, 178 artists recorded there, resulting in releases that garnered more than 100 million in sales, including three Elton John albums, five Chicago albums and two Earth, Wind & Fire platters.

When a fire destroyed the control room in 1985, Guercio closed the studio. According to the Daily Camera, Guercio reportedly licensed the ranch's intellectual property to Gravity Collection, a Denver media firm.
