The best EDM in Denver this weekend

SAT | MICHAL MENERT at FILLMORE AUDITORIUM | 11/16/13
Since his debut solo album Dreaming of a Bigger Life, Michal Menert has been steadily touring the country building a grassroots following in the same way Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights did when he first hit the scene. Menert has won fans over with his galactic spaced out grooves, which draw heavy influence from the golden eras of soul, funk and hip-hop. El-P and Killer Mike are slated to share this outstanding bill. -- Britt Chester

Excision-02.jpg

FRI | EXCISION/ BOOM FESTIVAL at 1STBANK CENTER | 11/15/13
The music of Excision is a fitting soundtrack to the desolate, gritty, apocalyptic landscape of a future ruled by homicidal machines. His tunes are warped, stuttering affairs studded with samples from both sci-fi and hip-hop. Wobbly bass that can double as a sonic weapon is the foundation for eerie, meticulously designed timbres that create a claustrophobic atmosphere around his twisting beats. The resulting tracks are masterpieces of the dark side of the dance floor. As a DJ, he fuses his own tracks with similarly sinister material from other artists into a gnarly, rapid-fire blitzkrieg. Catch Excision at the Boom Festival at 1STBANK Center with Deltron 3030, Funtcase vs. Cookie Monsta, Brillz, Ill.Gates and Robotic Pirate Monkey. (7:30 p.m., $30 and up) -- BC

ROB FRI | GARZA at SUMMIT MUSIC HALL | 11/15/13
Rob Garza has a lot going on besides Thievery Corporation -- he's also a touring DJ in his own right who ignites dancefloors everywhere he spins, and he has a new album out entirely comprising remixes he's tweaked. The album's genesis started after Garza's friend Federico Aubele asked him to do a remix and then other people heard that he was doing remixes and eventually he compiled them all into Remixes. Catch him at Summit Music Hall with the Juan MacLean and Dynohunter. (8:30 p.m., all ages, $16-$20)

SAT | DYED SOUNDOROM at NORAD | 11/16/13
Certain parts of the EDM galaxy can seem like a small town when it comes to who knows whom and how they're acquainted. Take the story of Dyed Soundorom, for example. He was turned on to the West Coast house-music sound that was everywhere in the '90s when he heard Dan Ghenacia spin sets at Paris's Batofar after-parties just before the turn of the millennium. Now, Ghenacia and Soundorom (along with their pal Shonky) are the powerhouses behind illustrious label Apollonia. Soundorom has maintained his love of soul-shaking, booty-bumping house music through the years, packing dance floors with his sets and crafting tracks for a laundry list of big-name labels: Adult Only, Crosstown Rebels, Real Tone and many more. He's played all the hot spots around the globe, from Ibiza to London, and he'll be at NORAD with Sergei Loginov this Saturday, November 16. (9 p.m., 21+, $10-$15)
