The best EDM in Denver this weekend
CLAUDE VONSTROKE @ CITY HALL | SAT, 11/9/13
Claude VonStroke, founder of the illustrious Dirtybird record label, flirts with genres from all over the spectrum, nodding to hip-hop, garage and soul while infecting the dance floor with his playful, upbeat take on house. Although he's long been a presence on the festival circuit, this year was the first that Dirtybird as a label hosted stages at festivals across the country, including HARD, Electric Zoo and TomorrowWorld. Unlike many festival staples, though, VonStroke and his protégés don't play the latest tunes. They're too busy scoping out the sound of the future and sculpting it into their own creations, envisioning and creating the cutting edge of what's new in the house world. Catch Claude VonStroke at City Hall this Saturday, November 9 with J.Phlip, Oona Dahl and Kal Halax.
PANTYRAID @ THE FILLMORE AUDITORIUM | SAT, 11/9/13
When not performing as a member of the Glitch Mob, Ooah (Josh Mayer) sometimes collaborates with Martin Folb in PANTyRAiD. Not firmly entrenched in a specific style of electronic music, this project seems to freely associate and appropriate sound ideas and techniques from a wide variety of sources, including dubstep and hip-hop. The resulting collage of sounds and samples may have its roots in William Burroughs's cut-up technique, using music and noises rather than literary fragments, but the ensuing imposition of rhythmic logic reveals Folb and Mayer's knack for finding fresh and fascinating connections between disparate sources. The duo's The Sauce showcases the same with a shameless yet playful use and abuse of technology to push further into the frontier of electronic music. Catch them at the Fillmore with Ana Sia, Beni Haze and Kastle. (7:30 p.m., 16+, $47 and up) -- Britt Chester
