The best EDM in Denver this weekend
SAT | DIGITALISM at VINYL | 2/8/14
After a stripped-down U.S. tour last May, the Hamburg-based duo Digitalism is coming back across the pond. The electro musicians are a prime example of why two heads can sometimes be better than one when it comes to creating music. The pair, Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi, have been collaborating since they met, and the latter's more light, melodic tendencies are a perfect foil for the former's darker twists and turns. This is electro with an anthem-house twist; the retro clicks and beeps create dancefloor masterpieces that make bodies move and club walls shake. Digitalism has created remixes for such powerhouses as Daft Punk, Depeche Mode and the White Stripes, and in turn had those remixes spun by noted names like Justice and Soulwax -- proof that the act's winning formula works both in the studio and behind the decks.
FRI | TRUTH and YOUNGSTA at BETA | 2/7/14
Hailing from the Deep Medi label, Truth will be playing alongside fellow dubstep pioneer Youngsta. Both acts take things into a region of sound not often heard on sound systems. This isn't just standard, run-of-the-mill dubstep that you think you heard on a movie teaser; this is dubstep as it's heard in sweaty rooms around the world that know the Truth. In the Beatport Lounge, catch Hipp-E, Broom Dawgg and Sergei Loginov. (9 p.m., 18+, $10) -- Britt Chester
