With input from folks active in various facets of the scene (readers, bar owners, talent buyers, bloggers, critics, radio personalities and promoters), we've assembled an exhaustive list of the city's top acts in nearly forty categories. It's a veritable tip sheet of the best and brightest from our scene.

The Colorado Symphony has just been added to the lineup for this year's Westword Music Showcase on Saturday, June 22. Having already performed successful collaborations with Trey Anastasio of Phish and DeVotchKa, the Colorado Symphony has proven to be notably progressive in its efforts to expand and the established boundaries of music. The Symphony and the Showcase -- talk about an ideal pairing. Since founding our annual festival nearly two decades ago, we've constantly striven to showcase the best musical talent in Colorado in all styles.

The votes have been been tallied for the 2012 Westword Music Showcase ballot, and we're doing things a little bit differently this year. Rather than announcing them at the actual ceremony, we're revealing them here. And then in lieu of a traditional ceremony, we're throwing a party this Thursday, July 12 at the Bluebird Theater, where we'll give out the actual awards, and then have live music from a couple of this year's nominees, including BLKHRTS and a special guest. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the nominees VIP reception (must have invite and be 21 plus), and the party (open to the public, ages sixteen and up) kicks off at 8 p.m. RSVP on Facebook. Now, on to this year's winners, as voted by you, readers of Westword.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis came out to chants of "Macklemore! Macklemore!" at the 2012 Westword Music Showcase from the packed and adoring crowd. Once Lewis stepped onto the DJ platform and took the microphone from the stand, the audience erupted with anticipated euphoria, and the pair exploded with the energy of five lions.
