A new year is here, and from the looks of this week's new batch of music, it's going to be a good one for local hip-hop. We're off to a good start, anyway. We've got new beats from Man Mantis off his label's new comp, a fresh joint from production duo Fly 4 Ward, a new cut from ILL Silla, a new freestyle from SP Double, a new radio-ready single from DGirl the Bombshell's upcoming mixtape, Mascara Music 2, and a swan song from old-school Denver spitters the HighTops. We've got another fresh batch of local hip-hop for you this week, including a new cut from Innerstate Ike, Esi Juey and Nyke Nitti that pays homage to the beloved boys of winter in the orange and blue. Time keeps on ticking with an Adam Yauch tribute and new album in the works

Among a handful of the local music-scene tributes to recently deceased Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, Time offered his respects for the fallen MC and activist on a new tune, "Too Sweet to Be Sour," a cross-Atlantic collaboration with British MC Akira the Don. The track opens with a crisp horn line looping over a pounding '80s analog kit reminiscent of Rick Rubin's License to Ill-era productions. The sampled chorus, Yauch's line "Too sweet to be sour/To nice to be mean," introduces each MC, whose verses mingle memories and some clever Beastie references.
