Wizard Tat. More photos below.
Ah, summer music festivals: If you're a tatted-up rock and roll, heavymotherfuckingmetal fan, these annual mega-concerts are the time to show off last winter's ink to a bumper crop of fellow proud-freaks and fuck-ups like yourself. (We won't tell anyone you're an accountant at Brown & McAllister CPA, swear.)

And as you know, Denver metal fans are no exception when it comes to tattoos of all kinds. T-Shirts too. Photographer Aaron Thackeray brings us this gallery of legit and not-so-legit tattoos and T-Shirts, both vital accouterments to any metal soldier's uniform.

Can Someone Please Introduce These Two to Each Other?

Categories: Mile High Makeout

Among the many photos in our Mayhem Festival hits Denver slideshow, these two portraits were shot by photographer Aaron Thackeray. From their style alone, this couple seems made for each other. Denver metal community, can you please introduce these two to each other for us?!?! (Let us know how it goes.)

Localized: Todd Roeth lives for the silence and noise

When it comes to the Denver music scene, Todd Roeth is a regular household name. Along with business partner Sean Porter, Roeth started the reputable Dayjob Inc. web design and development outfit whose work can be found all over town from the Denver Botanic Gardens to the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase. But the real feather in the Porter/Roeth cap is the creation of every concert goer's wet dream, Gigbot, a friendly little robot that is the perfect love child between concert listings and social media.

Clearly a music fiend (his Gigbot profile lists him as having attended nearly 400 shows since August 2007), Roeth has also made a name for himself photographing some of today's most noteworthy musicians including Calexico, Mason Jennings and a slew of local artists. Not one to stand on the sidelines, Roeth currently has three portraits for sale to benefit Haitian relief efforts on the Prints for Haiti website.

Just months after launching his bi-monthly songwriter's workshop at the Meadowlark, Mike Marchant is already pleased as punch with the response the night has gotten.

"It's going really well, and it's a lot of fun," he notes of the gathering, which takes place on the first and third Monday of every month. "Basically, what we do is get together and geek out on music. We listen to really good and really bad music and talk about it."

While dissecting music with some of Denver's finest (Marchant plays in both Widowers and Houses) might sound freakishly intimidating, he says it isn't so. "It's not really a class or anything, but more of a discussion, anything to learn and bounce ideas off of each other."

Marchant releases his latest album this evening at the Meadowlark with A. Tom Collins, John Common and Ashley Raines. And in honor of that, he took some time to answer some questions for us in this week's Localized.

Localized: The Denver Egotist likes mystery and meatloaf

Denver has a lot of egos, but there is only one Denver Egotist. The sneaky, cheeky, kind of geeky website showcases Denver's top creative happenings and rich talent pool better than any other website (hence the name). We caught up with the Denver Egotist, but since the website is anonymously run, we're not entirely sure who's doing the talking (or the excessive drinking). But since they loathe Dealin' Doug as much as we do, it's all good.

Almost a year after taking on the role of director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Adam Lerner is settling into his role. In addition to combining forces with The Lab at Belmar, the MCA has hosted five new exhibitions and spawned the innovative Mixed Taste lecture series under the guidance of Lerner.

The museum's latest show, Looking for the Face I Had Before the World Was Made , opens Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art. There will be booze, and it cost 10 cents, which is a fancy way of saying we'll be there. We talked to Lerner about Denver for our new feature, Localized.
