Mile Hi-Fidelity interviews from the archives: Fell

With Indie 101.5 leaving the FM dial and making the move online, Mile Hi-Fidelity has officially gone on hiatus. After eight months of programming, we decided to take a break. In the meantime, until the program resurfaces, we're in the process of going through the archives and picking out some show highlights to share with you. During our short run, we managed to have quite a few guests on the air. Unfortunately, we didn't capture all of our exchanges, but we did manage to record a fair number, which we'll be sharing with you over the course of the next few weeks, including this one with Fell, that was broadcast this past June. Listen at your leisure after the jump.

Had an outstanding show last night. Whygee and Sunkenstate stopped by and discussed the new album, releasing it via Twitter -- a new and undeniably novel way of getting the word out -- the state of hip-hop in Denver and the obstacles local hip-hop artists face. We also premiered two songs from the new record, "In a Rut" and "Tears of the Son." And otherwise, despite the fact that the interview with Whygee and Sunkenstate was fairly lengthy, we managed to play eighteen other tracks. See the full playlist after the jump.

If you caught the show last night, we played it straight again, just like the old days, you know, just two turntables (well, CD decks) and a microphone(s). No dogs, no slogans, just great beer. We also featured a gaggle of new local music from Boulder Acoustic Society, Paper Bird, Joshua Novak, Pictureplane, the Legendary Beep Beeps, the Food Chain and the Fresh Breath Committee, along with some cuts we haven't played in a while. We also started tweeting our playlist last night for the benefit of those who want to know what we're playing in real time rather than waiting for this blog post the morning after. See the full playlist after the jump. And be sure to tune in next week when Whygee stops by to premier his new single from the record he's about to drop.

Last night ended up being another greatest hits installment, in which I played as many of my favorite cuts from the past eight months worth of shows that I could jam into two hours. That number, as it turns out, is 28, in case you were wondering. Didn't really plan it that way, but that's the way it turned out. I guess you can blame it on a recent roadtrip I took in which I listened to several archived editions of the show and went, "Hmm... those are some damn fine songs. I should play those again sometime." So to paraphrase Tracy Chapman, that's just what I did. The estimable Jon Solomon sat in for my distinguished colleague Andy Thomas, who was once again a face on a milk carton due to some sort of rock and roll-related engagement or another. "Ah, man, I love this song!" I must make this remark a lot during the show. Last night, as I was marveling out loud about one of the tunes -- I'm not sure which one, but I think it might've been "Skinny" by Scaffolding -- Andy pointed out the obvious: I should love them, since I pick what we play each week. After all, it stands to reason that I'd play songs I liked. He's got a point. Guess I'm a little dense sometimes. Anyhow, Andy was back last night in the co-host chair, and we had a blast as usual, chopping it up on the air and playing some quality local music, some new stuff, some old stuff and some unreleased stuff. Turned in an economy version of the show last night. No guests, no co-host. Not much to report really. Just one guy, one mike and two dozen handpicked tunes. Where was my faithful sidekick, you ask? Why Mr. Thomas had a show last night at the Larimer Lounge, as he dutifully reminded me via text yesterday just a few hours before the show. I, of course, responded, dutifully reminding him that I couldn't make it because, well, I'd be on the radio hosting our show and stuff. Oh, that. Heh-heh. Anyhow, my trusted compatriot Andy will be back next week, and we'll have a whole new batch of tunes for you. In the meantime, here's what I played last night.
