The Denver Boot: Danielle Ate the Sandwich at the Bluebird

0406_denver-boot.jpg

A few weeks ago, Danielle Ate the Sandwich took part in a stellar, sold out bill at the Bluebird, headlined by Gregory Alan Isakov and featuring Eleanor and our own Andy Thomas. Our pal Lance Stack from TheFlatResponse.com was there and brought along his mikes and recorders and captured the sets. Lance has graciously bestowed upon us Danielle's set from that night, that we're now sharing with you. Download the entire set after the jump.

The Denver Boot: Murder Ranks at 3 Kings Tavern - 09/06/09

0406_denver-boot.jpg

A few weeks ago, we offered up a list of our dream reunions. You responded by offering up dream lists of your own. And as we've been out an about and the subject has been broached over beers, one local name keeps coming up -- the Warlock Pinchers, a now mythical act whose latent irreverence was matched only by its caustic wit. As it turns out, the band reunited last month -- well, as close as we're going to get to a reunion for the time being anyway, when Dan Wanush (aka King Scratchie) of Murder Ranks was joined on stage by Andrew Novick (K.C. K-sum) of Get Your Going. The pair tackled a few Pinchers cuts, including the inimitably profane "Morrisey Rides a Cockhorse." Our pal James Freeman (who just launched a blog of his own, BTW, called That's the Thing About That), was not only on hand for the performance, but taped it -- the entire set. And since he's graciously blessed us with the recordings, we're now laying 'em on you. Download the entire set after the jump. Gratis. You're welcome.

The Denver Boot: Whygee and Sunkenstate with Big Wheel Electro Soul at the Walnut Room - 08.29.09

0406_denver-boot.jpg
On August 29, Whygee and Sunkenstate celebrated the release of Suicide Watch 2: Sambodextrust with a show at the Walnut Room that also featured performances from Food Chain and members of the Starting Five, Naeem Oba, charleyBRAND and Gyp Da Hip. But the highlight of the evening, of course, was the performance of Sambodextrust backed by live band Big Wheel Electro Soul. For those of you who couldn't make it out to the show, Whygee hooked us up with an excellent quality recording of the set, which we're now passing on to you. Download the set after the jump!

The Denver Boot: Lion Sized at the Larimer Lounge - 08/02/09

0406_denver-boot.jpg

In honor Lion Sized's show tomorrow night at the hi-dive with the Still City and the Great Panic, and thanks to our pal Lance, and, well, because it's Freeloader Friday and we're cool like that, we present you another sparkling edition of the Denver Boot for your downloading pleasure. After the jump we've posted a Lion Sized set recorded at the Larimer Lounge earlier this month. Get a taste of what awaits you tomorrow evening or just enjoy the awesomeness of one of our favorite bands!

The Denver Boot: Achille Lauro at the Bluebird Theater

0406_denver-boot.jpg
Nearly two weeks ago, Achille Lauro opened up for Akron/Family at the Bluebird. Achille Lauro was dependably stellar as always. "In terms of the opening three bands, however, Achille Lauro's set stood out," wrote A.H. Goldstein in his review of the show. "The outfit's meditative and eloquent guitar lines, deepened by frontman Matt Close's sinuous synth lines and emotive vocals, made for a grounded and consistent set. Guitarist Luke Mossman offered plaintive and expertly plucked lines, a constant boon that helped carry the group's set." Our buddy Lance Stack from the Flat Response captured the whole set and has once again graciously hooked us up with links to download for this week's Boot. Enjoy!

The Denver Boot: Yuzo Nieto and the Hand That Rocks the Dreidel at the Larimer Lounge

0406_denver-boot.jpg

Yes, we know we already posted a Denver Boot this week -- earlier today in fact. Consider this one a bonus. See, our buddy Lance from the Flat Response had this great recording of a Larimer Lounge set from this past May from Yuzo Nieto and the Hand that Rocks the Dreidel hanging around that he hadn't posted it to his site yet. So of course, when we caught wind, we jumped at the chance to bless you with it. So what are you waiting for? Get your download on after the jump.

The Denver Boot: Hot IQs final show at Larimer Lounge

0406_denver-boot.jpg

Without question, Hot IQs, which took the stage for the last time this past weekend at the Larimer Lounge, made its mark on the Mile High City and will be sorely missed. Starting life as the Royal We, the outfit grew ably into its own as songwriters and left us with a slew of outstanding songs, from "Firecracker" to "Duck and Cover" to "Iggy Pop" to "Houndstooth," just to name a few. Those who attended the act's farewell show at the Bluebird this past June were treated to exhilarating renditions of those favorites. For this their final performance, though, Eli Mishkin, Bryan Feuchtinger and Elaine Acosta switched things up and treated the crowd to a set of covers from the bands that had the biggest impact on them over the years. Missed it, or just want to relive it in the comfort of your cube? No worries. Our faithful friend, Lance Stack from the Flat Response, captured the whole thing in its entirety and has graciously blessed us with the links for this week's Denver Boot. Enjoy!

The Denver Boot: the Fluid at Westword Music Showcase, 6.13.09

0406_denver-boot.jpg

It's been just nearly two weeks since the fifteenth annual Westword Music Showcase wrapped. By now, you've read all the coverage, checked out all the photos and downloaded all of the free MP3s. Right now, as we're gearing up for the awards ceremony, which will be taking place in the next few weeks (we're working out the details as we speak and will fill you in on the where and when as soon as things have been solidified), we thought we'd give you the chance to relive a few more highlights, specifically, this fantastic set from the Fluid. As you'll hear from the audio our buddy Lance Stark captured, despite a torrential downpour that took place during its set, one of Denver's most revered acts rocked the living daylights out of the Golden Triangle. Download the set after the jump.

The Denver Boot: Ghost Buffalo's final show - 05.12.09

0406_denver-boot.jpg

A Week ago this evening, the members of Ghost Buffalo played what was presumably their last show ever, at 3 Kings Tavern. While it's barely been even a week, it's safe to say that we already miss them. If you feel like we do, then you'll love this week's edition of the Denver Boot. After the jump we posted the set in its entirety -- well, minus a little editing on our part, in which we clipped the false start at the beginning of one of the songs -- for free download. Thanks to our pal and frequent commenter, SxPxDxCx, who set us up with the recorded of the show. As an added bonus, we've also embedded some clips from the show shot by our friends at Suburban Home. Enjoy!

The Denver Boot: Houses - 03.20.09

Thumbnail image for 0430_houses.jpg
Okay, so before we call it a week and go crack a cold one and lend an ear to some of the finest music this city has to offer, as promised, we're leaving you with the recordings from Houses' last appearance at the hi-dive a couple of months ago, to give you a taste of what you're in for tonight -- assuming, of course, this is your first introduction to the band. We were there for this particular set, and can attest that it was every bit as good as it sounds on these recordings (graciously made available by Lance Stark from the FlatResponse.com). We predict that "Fair Weather," a track which is slated to appear on the outfit's forthcoming "Summer" EP, is going to be the feel good hit of the, well, summer. You know the drill ...click, click, click. Off you go. After the jump and all that. Have a weekend!

The Denver Boot: Voices Underwater - 09.29.05

0406_denver-boot.jpg

In this week's edition of the Denver Boot, the esteemed Mr. Lance Stack has provided us with another fine audio snapshot of the Denver scene that we're now blessing you with, a vintage -- well, if you consider three and a half years ago to "vintage" -- recording from the Bluebird Theater in 2005 featuring the venerable, dearly departed Voices Underwater, a band that never received a proper sendoff and one that is sorely missed. Download or stream this weeks' boot after the jump.

Introducing the Denver Boot

0406_denver-boot.jpg

All right, so we've been promising/threatening to launch this feature for quite some time now. Well, here it finally is. And bygod what better way to set things off than with the complete live recordings of Dualistics' Nirvana tribute show this past weekend? With the blessing of our good friend Lance Stack at the FlatResponse.com, who captured this inaugural set at the hi-dive, and our buddy SxPxDxCx, who himself has also amassed a seemingly endless repository of live local recordings, beginning today we'll be presenting you with free downloads every week of the best live recordings, past and present. Feel free to either download or stream the songs after the jump.
